4: That Night

Bruce Wayne P.O.V.

I was leaving work late and got a phone call so I decided to take it while walking along the river.
" You know, you should be more careful and watch out for cars Mr. Wayne!" Said a voice I really didn't want to hear... It was the Joker.
I look around and see a black van swerve towards me so I of course jump out of the way but notice there's a young girl in the car trying to get out. After the car starts sinking in the water I dive in after it to get the girl out.
   When I dive in I see the window break and the girl come out, she put something over her mouth to help her not swallow water, I noticed she was struggling with her left wrist. She started to move with less effort, and I soon understood as I came closer that she was handcuffed to the door of the van. I picked the lock as I put another rebreather over her mouth and swam back to the surface and hid it as we resurfaced. She was still unconscious, so I decided to see if I could figure anything out about her. She had on dog tags saying her name, birthday and parents. Anyways some how the press had gotten here and written a big article about. Because she almost drowned she was hospitalized.
When I got home, Dick was standing there waiting, and smirking...
"So how was your late night swim?!" He said.
I had completely forgotten I was soaking wet.
   " Saved some kid from drowning, wanna help me figure out who she is?" I ask already knowing my apprentice's answer.
I walk to the bat cave and search her up but nothing? That's weird...
   " Hey Dick!" I call
"mmph?" He answered.
   " There's nothing on the kid could you keep a close eye on her when I'm not around?" I ask.
"What? Does that mean that you're going to adopt her? Seriously I don't want to babysit!" He answered
   " She's 12 you just need to watch her at school and at home. I'll get Roy to watch her the rest of the time like at night and when she's out and about so stop complaining " I replied.
