"Why?"

I felt my body shiver, shielding myself behind the couch.

Ryland stood with my phone in his hands, gripping the phone tight enough to almost break it.

"It's almost like everyone wants a piece of you," he chuckled.

"It's not my fault, Ryland!"

"Why don't you wear your wedding ring anymore?"

My breath hitched.

After he had confessed to killing everyone I had loved and known, I hadn't considered the world I'm living as reality.

Nor have I considered that the marriage I am in was real.

I guess, I want to live the life I never had the chance to live.

"Quit your job."

My eyes widened, tears spilling.

"No, please Ryland," I pleaded.

He let out a soft chuckle and approached the couch.

He lifted me up and sat me on his lap, petting my hair.

"Let's make a deal shall we?" Ryland whispered in my ear.

I felt tears stream down my cheeks and trace my jawline.

Then, I felt a slight pressure on my cheek. It was cold and sharp, but my eyes wouldn't dare to look at it. After all, I knew way too well.

"Let me carve your face and I'll grant you that freedom you want."

Slowly, the pocket knife pierced my skin slowly, yet deep enough to scar.

I choked on my tears, sobbing hysterically.

"I love you, (First Name), but.."

He moved the knife into the motion of an R.

"We really got off on the wrong foot."

He then lifted the knife and pressed it in again, making a Y.

"The first time I met you"

Then, he carved an L.

"You lied."

He dug in a little deeper, twisting the knife slightly making me whimper.

He let out a small chuckle, then continued making an A.

"I guess that's your thing."

He had made an N.

"Lying, yes?"

Then, he finished the carving with a D at the end, dropping the knife.

Slowly, he licked the blood pouring out of the fresh cuts.

"But that's why I am so addicted."
