Margaret is a female first name, derived via French (Marguerite) and Latin (Margarita) meaning "pearl". Margaret Kane was the Ark's pearl, the glistening object being associated with wealth, femininity, purity, wisdom, patience and peace. Due to their appearance, they have often been compared to the moon, and are said to have a calming, protective and strengthening effects. Margaret Kane knew she had it good, never hungry or cold, she was adored and envied by her peers - because she appeared to be nothing short of perfect. Her quiet, mysterious and beautiful demeanour enchanted those who saw her, she wasn't social, she didn't have any friends and she kept to herself - so she was a rare beauty to be sighted. Everything about her appeared to be  flawless.

After her life of comfort and isolation, she is forced to depend on other and be depended on to survive, the person she is and the person she needs to be to survive are very different.
