The Song

"Well, Hiro, I kind of need to know what Big Hero Six is before joining it."

"I was getting to that!" He tapped his foot restlessly. "...Okay." Seemingly preparing himself for something, he took a deep breath. "For you to understand Big Hero Six, I guess I need to tell you about... Tadashi." And so, he told you the whole story - his brother, the fire, Callaghan... Big Hero Six. "Have you not heard of it before..?" He watched your good arm, fingers tapping against the hospital bed. "No. I wasn't in San Fransokyo when this all happened.. Geez! You'd think I'd hear about it on the news!" "Were you nearby?" He scooted in closer. "Yeah, kind of close to San Fransokyo." "Ah..."

It felt like Hiro got closer by the second, his nervous, big eyes soft by your closing distance. "..Hiro," your voice trembled. "I... Really like you, too." Your noses were an inch apart. Hiro gulped, unable to hide the blush forming on his face. The toothy grin was no less apparent. "You do..?" "I do."

...Is this... What you do when you're about to kiss!?

Oh gosh, oh gosh, oh gosh-

"HIRO!" The door slammed open, Fred's friendly face waltzing right in. "HOW IS SH-" It didn't take an idiot to figure out what was happening when the two of you jumped apart, with you awkwardly laughing, Hiro trying his best to whistle between the gap of his teeth. "...Oh." Fred smirked. "I guess she's doing just fine. I'll tell the others~" With a coy wave of his fingers, he shut the door.

"..." "..." The two of you apparently found the room very interesting, looking all around it - all but at each other. "So..." Your voice nearly cracked under the tension. "So!" He pressed his thumbs together, rubbing them with enough pressure to start a fire. "Um... Big Hero Six!" Finally, you looked at him, clearing your throat. "Big Hero Six," he airily repeated. "..."

    "I'll do it."

"Really?!" He got up in an instant, fists tightening. "Oh, good! That means," he slowly sat back down, taking a breath. "...That we'll start training." Again, his leg bounced. "...I guess I should also tell you.. Ashi was trying to shoot you off of Baymax." "Shoot me!?" He held up a hand before you could freak out. "Wait. Not with bullets, though. With nets.." His eyes darkened. "We managed to lose him before coming here. But at this rate, you.. Your dad. Might be in danger." You dwelled on his words, before responding. "This might mean your mom is in danger, too! Let's start training RIGHT NOW-" He had to press down your shoulder to stop you from doing anything reckless. "No!" His frantic cry was enough to quiet you.

"...You need to rest." His hand just barely graced down over your arm. "...Because.. Your arm." He cleared his throat, quickly retracting his hand. "It's about to be. Y'know." "Cut off?" You chuckled. He had a sorry smile. "You're taking this lightly..!" He watched you bravely smile. You waved your hand. "It's not like I can feel it, anyway." The room fell silent, again. "Are you scared?" Hiro's voice seemed to echo. You idly moved your feet. "..." It was hard to ignore how hard your heart was beating. How you were just a bit short of breath.

"...Do you want to sing?" From his hand, he revealed an mp3. Your mp3. "Hiro.." You took it from him, feeling the familiar scratches and divots between your fingers. You shut your fist around the device, shaking your head. "I... I'll sing." You handed him back the mp3.

    "I'll sing my own song."

And so, he listened, as your weak voice trembled through words that poured from your head.

"In the dead of the night...

In the light of the day.

When you're not feeling right -

    When you're just not okay...

   I'm with you.

    And that makes me, better.

    I'll stay that way.

    Forever and, ever..."

It was very embarrassing, to sing out your true feelings in front of Hiro, but his gentle expression - his shut eyes and parted lips... Was he connecting to your song? "...It makes me better, too." His murmur startled you, another big silence having washed over the both of you after your song. All you could offer him was a smile. Anything else, and you might've cried.

A doctor walked in, nodding his head at Hiro; a signal to get out. Behind the doctor, a group cheered for you. "You got this!" GoGo held a thumbs up. "Stay strong, (Y/N)." Wasabi gave you his best smile. "Kick your arm's butt!" Fred cheered. "I have snacks for when you're done~" Honey waved an enticing bag. "You guys.." The hurt in your heart went away. "Right. See you later." You looked up at Hiro, who now looked determined. Repeating your phrase, he reached out to you.

    "See you later."
