...
Numb.
Dark.
...Sleepy.
...
A blinding white light seared your eyes open, as you gasped for air, clutching at your chest. That feeling just now... It was terrifying. As if you were about to lose all sensation - drifting out of this world, and into something entirely new...
...Oh. Your hand.
You took a second to marvel at it, outstretching it in front of you. The factory light reflected so cleanly off the surface. Clinking your fingers together... Yes, it could make a nice song. Hiro truly was a master of his craft.
Hiro.
Hiro...
"(Y/N)!?" Only then had you realized that Hiro sat in the seat next to your bed, hand at your shoulder. "Oh... Hiro." You yawned, resting your new arm. "I said, are you okay..?" His voice calmed. "..." You let your heart rate rest. "I'm just dandy." Hearing your response, he felt better, wiggling a tiny bit in his seat. "Good. That's good." He kept taking double glances at the door, before looking back at you.
He wanted to see you smile.
As much as he wanted you to himself, he decided to open the door. "She's awake!" After a very short moment, your friends came tumbling through the door, stopping at the foot of your bed. "Hoooraaay!" Honey went to hug you, before GoGo stopped her. "Not now, Honey." "Awww." Meanwhile, Fred eagerly stood at your side, holding up your arm. "Dang, Hiro! Nice job! I wish I was this toned!" "Fred," Hiro sighed, gently taking your arm from him. "...Hey, where's Wasabi?" GoGo looked around the room for their friend.
You peered to your other side. "Oh, there." He stood still, gaping at... Something. "What is it?" Fred came to look over his shoulder. "WOAH!" "What..?" GoGo looked next. "OH, GNARLY..!" Then Honey. "AAAA!" She had to cover her mouth to stop herself from screaming. ...No matter what, you couldn't manage to see..! So you asked Hiro. "What are they looking at..?" He shut his eyes, giving his best smile. "Um... Your severed arm."
"...WHAT?!" You tried to jump out of bed. "I WANNA SEE!!!" "(Y/N), no!"
The afternoon was whiled away with laughs. Fred's jokes, Wasabi's squeamishness.. Honey's energy, and GoGo's relaxing. When they all eventually left to retire for the evening, it ended with Hiro's care. To have him dote over you... Was a kind of heaven in itself. Though, you felt bad - seriously, you can take care of yourself, but that boy doesn't take your no for an answer.
"And why do I need to eat all this chicken soup? I feel full." You turned away from the spoon Hiro held, bowl in his lap. Really, the soup was so hard to resist - but when it was from Hiro... Well... "Hey, I live with a healthcare assistant. You'd think I'd learn a few things from him.." He seemed so insistent that you eat it... Oh, that's the last straw. Really, could you refuse a face like that? You squeezed the bed sheets, dropping your jaw the tiniest bit, letting the savory, warm taste of chicken soup flood your senses.
Spicy. Tart. Addicting. Oh, gosh, this is good..! You swiped the bowl and spoon from Hiro, only trying the tiniest bit to keep whatever manners you learned. It just kept getting better, the heat of the spice teasing your mouth... The tender chicken, bursting with pure flavor. Food truly is the greatest pleasure. "Mmm..!" A bit of soup drooled from your delirious smile. "(Y/N).." Hiro held up a napkin, taking a moment to gather his bravery. He leaned in. "You have some-" "What?" You wiped your mouth with a napkin on your tray. "...Nothing." He sighed.
...You seemed just fine.
"...Ha. Hahaha..!" He patted his temple with the napkin, a chuckle escaping him. "What's so funny?" You gave him a little glare. "I'm just glad that you're, um.." Looking into your eyes, his voice awkwardly wavered. "Y'know." "...Yeah." "...Hey," you set the tray down next to you, Hiro swiftly taking it. "...Where's my dad?"
"Oh." He thought for a moment. It was certainly strange that your dad hadn't visited you yet. "I... Actually don't know. Do you.. Want me to call him..?" He brought out his cell phone. You looked it over - a sleek black case, with small red accents. "Oh, you have a phone? I've never seen you with one." He pursed his lips. "Yeaaah. I built it a while back, but since I worked on so many new prototypes, I forgot I had a finished model.." He handed his phone to you. You tapped in the numbers.
Riiiing... Riiiiing... Riiiing...
"Hello?" "Dad! Hey! I'm in the hospital-" "Haha, did I get you? This is actually my voicemail." "Classic dad.." Hiro laughed at that. "Uhhh, if you've got a message... Leave it, I guess. Haha. That's what you usually do with voicemails, you know? By 'leave it', I don't mean 'leave it at the door', too, I mean, leave it so that I'll get it-" The voicemail cut off there. You cleared your throat. "Hey, dad..! I miss you. It's been kind of crazy. I'm in, um," you turned to Hiro, "where are we..?" "Four Feathers Hospital." "Four Feathers Hospital... Umm.. Yeah. Had a crazy run in with Ashi..! Kind of got my arm cut off. That sucked. But, Hiro made me a really cool new arm! I'm like a cyborg now! Also, I'm going to become a superhero. We have a lot to talk about, I guess.." You thought of something else to say... "...I think that's it. Like I said. I hope I didn't make you worry too much. I'm just... Makin' my way downtown. And hopefully, I'm homebound." A chuckle. "See you later." Beep.
You handed Hiro his phone, him pocketing it afterwards. "I'm surprised he hasn't come by." You hummed at him, staring down at your blanketed legs. "...Me too." A dreadful thought then came over you. "Hiro.." "What?" "You don't think..."
"You don't think something happened to dad, do you?"
