Lucifer was back to normal, almost. He was more distant with Michael in fear of having messed up their friendship. He didn't tease Michael anymore, never made fun of him and was wary of Michael's every move and every word, searching a sign that Michael wasn't okay with it.
Michael's nightmares came back more and more often though, and Lucifer did nothing but comfort him, not wanting to stay with Michael anymore because it reminded that the two of them would have to share a bed for a whole week.
The final day arrived and they went to the airport to take their plane. The wedding took place in Lucifer's hometown, Lawrence, Kansas, but they lived in New Jersey and didn't want to drive all the way there.
Yes, Lucifer was eager to see his family again, but he was also wary of what they'd think of him. The fact that Gabriel was marrying Sam fucking Winchester didn't help. Lucifer simply couldn't imagine a nice outcome to seeing him again, after five years of... seeing each other then Sam suddenly moving away.
"Luce, the plane is there," Michael said, pulling Lucifer out of his thoughts. Lucifer nodded, following Michael without another word. The fact that Michael still nicknamed him somewhat calmed Lucifer, since Michael almost only used his name when being serious, but he was still anxious. What if things went wrong? Situations like this always ended wrong.
They sat in the plane, Michael taking the window seat and Lucifer the middle. Thankfully, the other seat was empty. The flight wasn't that long but Lucifer found himself drooling in and out of sleep. It was true that he didn't have much sleep, overthinking every way possible for what would happen. Most outcomes were bad.
Michael looked at Lucifer, who he presumed was asleep. He wondered why Lucifer has been almost avoiding him recently. Sure, they'd have to fake being together, and maybe even kiss, but there was no reason to overreact that much. He smiled sadly at the thought that if he was in Lucifer's place he'd act the same. Lucifer wasn't so secret about his crush on Michael, just the way he acted proved it and Michael wasn't an oblivious idiot like Lucifer was. But Michael didn't want to act on it. He was still confused about what he felt for Lucifer and wanted to figure it out. He had thought before that he was asexual, but then Lucifer came into his life and Michael didn't know what to think anymore.
He thought that maybe the next week might change things. He would take the opportunity to see if he liked being in a couple with Lucifer. And if he did, if he was really in love with Lucifer, attracted to him, then maybe he would ask, make a move. He was sure Lucifer would be disappointed if Michael started a relationship with him not wanting to have sex. He knew Lucifer didn't only like him for his personality but also for his body, and he was scared Lucifer wouldn't like him because he didn't desire Lucifer like Lucifer wanted him. Maybe. That whole thing was really confusing him. He felt like he wanted more, not just than a friendship, but more than a strictly romantic relationship when he really thought about it. He couldn't understand his own mind and it scared him.
Near the end of the flight, Lucifer fell asleep again, his head resting on Michael's shoulder. Michael couldn't resist and passed a hand in Lucifer's hair, gently playing with it, wondering if they could ever be more than friends and if that was really the way he felt.
Michale was confused by how Lucifer had recently been acting. Did it mean Lucifer didn't want to be in a relationship with Michael? Was he only stressed? Was Lucifer not really experiencing feelings for him, like he thought? Was the whole thing actually nothing?
"I think I love you, Luce." Michael chuckled. "It's strange how things are easier to say when you're asleep," he noticed. "I'm confused. I'm pretty sure you love me. Why are you acting different? Is it because you're scared? I hope we both figure our things out."
The rest of the flight passed pretty well, they didn't talk much but Lucifer still enjoyed Michael's silent company. He was certain he wouldn't be able to make it without his friend, even with the awkward situation he had put them into. (No I am not going cliché Lucifer did not hear what Michael said to him)
Michael woke Lucifer up when the plane landed, chuckling at his friend's sleepy face. They were waiting for their luggage when they were attacked by a boucing ball of red hair and nerdiness, the latter apparent by her Star Wars bag and Star Trek shirt.
She trapped Lucifer in a hug, stunning him and before he even got the chance to react she pulled away, laughing at Lucifer's face.
"Luci, it's been so long! How 'you doing? Ooh is that your bf? Gabriel told me you had a date!" She spoke almost as fact as Gabriel usually did, which was saying a lot. At least from what Lucifer remembered.
"Yeah," Lucifer said, unsure of what to say. "Michael, this is my geek lesbian best friend Charlie, Charlie, this is my... boyfriend Michael."
Michael said hi to Charlie, linking his hand with Lucifer's to add more realism. By the way she squealed and whisper-yelled 'Michifer!', he could tell she was one of those obsessive shippers. Shit, that added a new difficulty. They talked all the way to the hotel, even if it was more Lucifer and Charlie reuniting and Michael awkwardly third-wheeling their talk. He was already taking a liking in her, though she seemed the stalker type, which could be a problem if she discovered they weren't actually dating.
"Alright, see you tomorrow bitches!" Charlie called when she reached her room in the hotel, since she lived in California.
"See you tomorrow," Lucifer responded with a smile, while Michael only nodded.
Michael looked around the room while Lucifer started to unpack. It was quite luxurious, nothing they could've afforded if it wasn't taken in charge by the soon-to-be-wed. The kitchen was separated by a half-wall and the bathroom was clean.
He went back to the main room, finding Lucifer had almost finished unpacking. Not addressing a single look at the king bed, Michael started to unpack too.
Not a word was exchanged during the whole time. When he finished unpacking, Michael looked at Lucifer, who was just awkwardly standing there, then at the small couch, probably very uncomfortable to sleep in, then at the bed, then at Lucifer again, who's eyes followed the same trajectory.
Sighing, Michael sat on the bed, opened his laptop and set up Doctor Who, patting the spot next to him. They still had a few hours before dinner. He really didn't want the night to come...
Hey, so another chapitre! Yay! I feel like I've already said that somewhere...
Anyways I might reduce the length of the chapitres a bit, I don't know, I have some things planned but because I'm me it's near the end... yeah. So it's Lucifer Shirley, Michael Cohen, just in case you wanted to know.
