Analie:

"Analie, wake up!"

I peek under my covers and see my mother standing with her hands on her hips and an unreadable expression.

"Did you have to scream in my ear? I mean, I am a person; you could have woken me up normally," I say, getting out of bed and stretching.

"Sweetheart, I am your mother; I can wake you up in whatever way I feel is suitable." She says in a sarcastic tone.

"Mom, I don't remember asking for sarcasm for breakfast, do you?" I say, walking into my walk-in closet.

"Shut up and get ready for school." She says, chuckling.

"Yeah, I love you too, mother!" I yell as she closes the door.

Great, now I have to get ready for school. The first days are "just the best."

After about thirty minutes of trying to figure out what to wear, I finally decided on a white long sleeve, a black leather jacket, skinny jeans, and black boots.

Once I was ready, I grabbed my bag and walked out of the room, heading to slide down the stair banister.

"How many times have I told you about sliding down the banister?! "

My mother yells at me for the second time today.

" I Don't know; I lost count," I say, smiling sheepishly.

" Analie Mia Evans!" My mother yells again while crossing her arms over her chest and giving me a pointed look.

"Come on, mom, it is fine. It's not like I'm going to get hurt."

" Knowing how clumsy you are." She scoffs, "you will."

"Mother, we discussed this. I am accident-prone, not clumsy. There is a huge difference!"

"Whatever helps you sleep at night, sweetheart." She says sarcastically and starts walking back to the kitchen.

"I'm going to head out, mom. I have to pick up some books from the bookstore before school!" I yell.

"Please be careful, and don't get hurt!"

"No promises!" I yell as I close the door.
