This chapter is kind of boring but don't skip it because it's really important, so sue me. (Don't actually that was sarcasm :) )
-Bright's POV-
Despite Dawn's quite impressive feet, there were still many questions to be answered and things to be done. The deactivated droids were thrown unceremoniously out into the heavy rain, and as the night wore on the base was secured and the troopers not on guard duty needed some rest. Luckily, the base held plenty of barracks for the soldiers as well as an advanced communications room where the Prism Squad and General Skywalker stood now.
The rain was still to heavy for reinforcements to come through, though the 212th was standing by above, so they should be, thought Bright, getting an ok night's rest for at least a few hours before guard duty. But nooooo, once again Dawn had caused her share of trouble, and she wasn't even in the room.
Dawn and Commander Tano were on a perimeter check, mapping the foggy terrain. So of course, her absence couldn't possibly be used to get some sleep, they had to have a meeting about her instead.
"But I don't understand," General Skywalker argued again. "Killing an innocent person just because she might not be "compatible with the army?"
The holograms of Shaak Ti, Lama Shu (prime minister of the Kamoians) and Aka Nella (a doctor/cloner) were projected on the opposite side of a wide table covered in gadgets to get a signal above the storm.
Lama Shu shook his head condescendingly. "The clone's skill in battle is doubtless, yet we must address her behavior! Loyal though she may be, the clone is headstrong and quite cocky. I am afraid you must ship the clone back here before a weapon like her goes haywire."
Ship back. A weapon going haywire. Headstrong and cocky. Though Bright had had the same thoughts about Dawn's behavior before, it infuriated him now. They spoke about her as if she wasn't even human! She was no weapon, he had seen that much.
"Please, Prime Minister," volunteered Bright, even as his voice wavered. He cleared his throat. "If she can prove herself not a weapon, but a soldier, in the next battle, she could prove to be an asset. Give her one more chance."
Aka Nella started to say something, but Shaak Ti cut her off. "I believe this is a good idea," she voiced. "Killing an innocent being is against the Jedi code. While you have no such code, I can only agree with Bright."
Bright felt a surge of gratitude for the Jedi and their confusing moral codes. His spirits lifted even more when Lama Shu sighed. "Fine fine," he replied. "But she must prove herself on her own. This meeting shall not be spoken of."
And with that, the hologram shut off. General Skywalker walked stiffly out of the room without another word.
"Soo... I guess that means we're dismissed?" said Oak. Bright shrugged and led the others out of the room. For a moment, no one said anything. The idea that Dawn, bold, snarky, secretly caring Dawn could be just... gone, well it was disturbing. Bright hadn't realize how much she'd touched all of their lives, as clones and as people, until he imagined them without her.
"What are we going to do?" asked Blast, voicing everyone's fears. "There is no way Dawn will just change everything she is for the next battle, but we were given a direct order to keep silent about the meeting."
Bright frowned, a rare occurrence for him, as the hung their extra weaponry and gear near their bunks. "Well this may just be my hunger and sleep deprivation talking," he sighed, "but there is no way I'm letting Dawn get killed. I'm telling her."
"Alright," replied Rider reluctantly. "But if we get shot in the face I'm saying it's your fault."
---
"Alright," said Dawn unwaveringly. Her stance was tenser than usual, and she stared at the wall behind the squad instead of at them, but otherwise she seemed to accept their explanation.
"REally," replied Oak with a sigh of relief. "Wooh, I was definitely expecting to get shot, that was close."
"Well, I haven't ruled that out," replied Dawn with the ghost of a smile flitting across her face. "But for you guys, I will. No spray paint, no risky solo missions, just straight up fighting."
"THanks Dawn," said Bright. "I guess we'll see you tomorrow!" He headed off into the hallway towards the bunks, so relieved he was hardly worried about the actual battle.
He didn't even look back to see Dawn's concerned look, or the small gadget she had brought out of her pocket.
Hope you liked this chapter! The plot thickens.... Well see you, troopers and Jedi!
May the Force be with you,
Jedi Master Swift
