Everything hurt. I knew I was lying down, but I didn’t want to move. The air around me seemed to buzz. I didn’t want to open my eyes, but something inside me told me I should.

With all the power I could muster within me, I opened my eyes (more like squinted) into the dimly lit room-which I was severely grateful for. I was in an unfamiliar room, but it looked cozy and warm. Something like a hotel room in a cottage for a vacation.

I turned my head and I saw Joe sitting down on the edge of the bed. There was something different about his expression, but the buzzing in my head couldn’t let me think.

“Wha-what happened?” I croaked out. My throat was dry and sounded like sandpaper rubbing against each other. I tried moving again, but I still couldn’t, but this time I could feel some sort of restraint holding me down.

Joe got up and walked across the small room to the door. He opened it, closed it, and I heard the turning of a lock. That’s when I realized my situation.

                Joe has just kidnapped me.

I blacked out again. Whatever Joe drugged me with was still in my system, but is less than before. I was able to adjust myself and I realized I wasn’t strapped down to the bed as I previously thought, but my left hand was handcuffed to the metallic railing of the bed.

I sat up and rubbed my head with my free hand. My head was aching so badly. Suddenly, a thought came to mind.

How long have I been here?

There was little light outside the window, which helped me with the time of day but not the date.

As the drugs from my body finally wore off to almost nothing, I could finally feel the nervousness setting in. My whole body settled into a new kind of feeling, and though I was glad to have a clear mind again, this feeling was so much scarier.

I heard the door open and Joe walked into the room. I pressed myself against the bed frame, trying my best to cower away from him, which I knew was useless.

There was a chair beside the bed, and he turned it around so he could sit on it, resting his hands on the back of it and putting his chin on his arms.

“Glad you’re awake,” he said as if we were having a normal afternoon on a normal day.

“Where the hell am I?” I asked. “What did you do to me?”

“Are you hungry? Do you want anything to drink?” He asked, completely ignoring my questions.

“WHERE THE HELL AM I? LET ME GO!” I started to thrash but my body was still kind of groggy.

                “Don’t yell. It’s very irritating.”

I had to take a moment to process what he had just said. He just kidnapped me and my yelling was irritating? But though I wanted to get angry, all I could do was cry.

“Why are you doing this? I thought we were-“ suddenly a thought came to mind, and it wasn’t very pleasant. “Wait, you’re the one who’s been kidnapping girls! Is Zoe even missing? What is wrong with you?”
