I was released two nights later. I couldn’t remember a thing while I was there at the hospital, but apparently, I was well enough to go back home.
Dexter took me, of course. He was wearing the same clothes as he did two days ago, and I wanted to hug him. He hadn’t left the hospital while I was here.
We entered the gates to my home, and I was so relieved to see it again. Dexter helped me out and Mary came along, the both of them practically carrying me into the house, up the stairs, and into my room.
“I’m going to make you some soup. You stay put now,” Mary said, tears in her eyes. She kissed my forehead before leaving my room.
Dexter remained and he sat at the edge of my bed. He was breathing heavily, so I knew he had something to say. Finally, it came.
“Alex, what happened?” He turned his face towards me and I looked into his red eyes.
I shook my head. “I couldn’t believe what happened. I still can’t believe it happened. I thought I could trust him…”
“But why? Why did he take you?”
I inhaled deeply, holding it in before exhaling loudly. “He said that my dad was the one who has been taking the girls. Or at least, he’s the head of it or something. But that can’t be, because there was nothing like this back at home, and Joe said it’s been happening for months. Dad has only been here two weeks when Zoe was taken.”
“He’s been here back and forth though.”
I stared at Dexter. “Are you actually saying that he’s the one who’s been kidnapping the girls?”
“No! Of course not! Alex, I was just saying,” he sighed. “Just get some rest. You’ve had a rough two weeks.”
I nodded, and he got up to leave but I stopped him.
“Where’s my dad anyways?”
“He’s out on business. I notified him that you had returned but all he said was he’ll be back as soon as possible.”
Once again, I nodded and Dexter left the room. Disappointment ran through me as I realized that my dad has once again missed an important event in my life. I’ve been missing for nearly two weeks and he couldn’t even be here to see me return.
I wrapped myself in the sheets, and lately all I’ve been doing was sleeping or blacking out. But before I could again, my door opened and I heard my father’s voice.
“Alex? Oh my gosh you’re okay!”
I turned and saw my dad walk over to me, wrapping me in his arms. I couldn’t respond, and when he let go, he sat on the edge of my bed.
“I was worried sick about you! What happened?”
I shook my head. I was glad to see him, but I was hurt from the fact he didn’t come back right away.
“I’m sorry, I should have come back sooner, but work is a killer,” my dad said, pulling back to look at me. I just smiled.
“It’s okay,” I lied. “I understand.”
“We’ll talk when you wake up, okay?”
I nodded. My dad got up and when he opened the door, Mary came in with a bowl of soup in her hands.
“She’ll eat with me later. She needs to rest,” My dad said. Mary nodded once and retreated. The door closed and I was left alone in the room. Though I was in the comfort of my own home, it felt like I was still held captive in that cottage room, but this time, it felt worst. It didn’t make sense.
I was getting tired of being tired and going to sleep, but I let myself rest once more.
Look how short this chapter is! Sorry guys, but it was mostly a filler chapter. Also, I know I've been making Alex blackout/sleep lately, but that's what happens. Anyways, the next chapter takes place when she wakes up, and I hope you're ready for the intensity to pick up again.
Don't forget to leave some comments on what you think so far. Please don't forget to vote and I love you all.
I'll update again later on, hopefully, since this was such a short chapter.
Thanks x
