I woke up hours later. It was maybe eleven, and it was too late for dinner. Still, I got up and on the bedside table was a note.

I think it’s best if we take a vacation. Pack your bags and

We’ll go wherever you want.

-Dad

I smiled at the idea. Quickly, I grabbed my red duffel bag from the closet and started to pack some clothes. I grabbed shirts and jeans from my closet and my undergarments. I packed for both hot and cold weather, smiling at the thought of my dad and I finally having some quality time with each other again.

When I finished I zipped up the bag and placed it next to my door. Now, I was off to seek my dad. The house was quiet and his bedroom door was open and the lights were off, so he probably wasn’t there, which meant he was most likely in his office. I walked further down the hall towards his office when I heard he was talking to someone. I stopped, not because I didn’t want to disrupt them, but because the voice was oddly familiar.

Slowly, I stepped closer and peered into the barely open door. I saw a man in there and on his neck was a tattoo of a dagger. I gasped when I realized it was the man who tried to kidnap Jana.

“Austin, I’m sorry I hadn’t contacted you in weeks. Your daughter got the public looking for me.”

“Look, I don’t really care that you haven’t contacted me, but you risked this whole business! Everything could have been lost because you let that girl go.”

                Was he talking about Jana?

“I didn’t mean to. She bit me and it’s not like I was expecting it.”

I heard my dad groan. “It’s bad enough that that happened, but now I have to deal with the problems Alex caused. Somehow, it was released that the reason why she was kidnapped was to get back at me for kidnapping all those girls. Can you believe it?”

The man laughed. “I wonder who let that out.”

“I would really want to know because not only is my business getting bad publicity and losing millions now, but we were almost caught for crying out loud!”

I stopped breathing when I heard my dad’s words. What did he mean? It couldn’t possibly mean what I thought…

“So what are you going to do now?”

“Well, I’m going to take her away and tell the public that because of her trauma, she had to move.”

“But that’s not the truth is it?”

“Nope. I’m going to sell her.”

The shock and truth hit me hard and tears threatened to come out, but I stayed quiet and listened further.

“Isn’t she a bit out of the range though?”

“Then I’ll put her in my special collection of rents. There’s always men out there who like different things. And my daughter is quite beautiful, so she’ll be great.”

                “Okay, but your own daughter?”

                “I sold my own wife didn’t I?”
