I was watching TV the following evening. I had completely been oblivious to it since I’ve arrived here yesterday. Thank God there was a remote control and it was on the side table next to me.
Of course there wasn’t much channels, but I did get the news. And the headline of the day? Me.
“The daughter of Austin Beyer, Alexandra Beyer, has gone missing some time Friday night. According to their butler, she was last seen with Joseph Sugg, brother of Zoe Sugg, who is still missing. We don’t know if this is a kidnapping, but we have Mr. Beyer here to talk about his daughter.” The woman on screen said. She handed the mic over to my dad.
“My daughter isn’t like this. She doesn’t go out much, and even if she’s gone the whole day, she always comes back home. I’m worried sick.”
I felt tears in my eyes and I was so caught up in what I was watching that I didn’t notice Joe come into the room. He walked over to the TV and turned it off. I mugged him.
“So you’re keeping me in here and you won’t even let me watch the freaking news?” Though there were tears in my eyes all I wanted to do was be complicated. I wasn’t going to break, and I wasn’t going to beg to be let go. If he wanted to be this way, I’ll give him hell.
“You’ll only depress yourself,” he responded. I rolled my eyes.
“I’m so glad you care about my feelings Joe. What a great friend you are,” I said sarcastically. “Hey, here’s an idea. If you don’t want me to get depressed why don’t you let me the hell out of here?”
Joe grunted and ran his fingers through his hair, a gesture I used to find endearing up until now.
“Help us! Help us and you can go!”
“How many times do I have to say that my dad is innocent?”
“You can say it over and over but it isn’t true Alex. I have no reason to lie to you.”
I scoffed. “You get more pathetic every time you open your mouth. Rather let me go or get the hell out,” I pointed to the door with my free hand.
He rolled his eyes and left.
I screamed the moment the door shut and locked. Frustration ran through me as I pounded my fist against the bed. The circulation in my left arm was nearly nonexistent, and it was cold and paler than the rest of my body. Everything in general was just one huge ball of crap.
Literally everything was out of it. I was in a beautiful, comfortable looking room and all I felt was distress and discomfort. Moments before I was with a handsome guy who was flipping amazing… or so I thought.
I adjusted myself and stared at the wooden ceiling. I tried to even my breathing and calm my nerves, but they were buzzing everywhere. Instead of me calming down, I became restless. My breathing became ragged as my mind started to go on a rave.
Unappealing thoughts raced through my mind and I feared that my greatest fear was coming true.
What if I never get out? What if they never find Zoe and I’m stuck here forever? I tried to hold back the tears but they flew out like a waterfall. My brain felt like it was both going to melt and explode. But overall, I felt like I was going insane.
