Alfie and Joe took cover and the bullets passed through the glass doors. Shards flew in every direction and the driver man pulled me behind the counter to take cover. My dad pushed over a table to use as a shield.
“Don’t move,” the driver said. His glare was menacing and he raised the gun and looked over the counter. I heard a singular shot go out but I didn’t know who it came from. Hopefully it was from one of the guys and not my dad.
The driver looked at my dad and my dad made motions with his hands, telling him to move somewhere else. The driver nodded and started to round the corner and I was left alone behind it.
My breathing became hitched as I tried to remain calm. I was so happy that Joe was here, but the fact that he and the others are in danger right now frightened me. But I needed to do something and quick. I looked around to see if there was anything I could use as a weapon or at least a portable shield, but all I found was a pen and a stack of sugar packets.
With desperation, I grabbed the pen and took a deep sigh before crawling towards the back door behind the counter. Luckily I slipped in unnoticed. I needed to find something that I could actually use.
I got to my feet and started to look through the kitchen. So many pots and pans but they all looked too heavy for me to wield. I continued to look through the kitchen, hoping to find some cutlery when someone grabbed my arm.
“What do you think you’re doing in here?” The woman asked me. She was holding tightly to my arm and dragging me back out front. “Where is my gun? Those boys out there are ruining my diner!”
“Stop! Let go of me!” I yelled.
“No way!” she screamed. I continued to thrash against her hold and I used the pen to stab at her hand. She let go of me. “What the hell?”
She raised her hand as if she were about to strike me. I raised my arms in defense and screamed. I felt her hand connect with my arm and I pushed it away.
“Stop! You said women should keep men happy right? Well he’s taking me away from making my boyfriend happy! So what do you have to say to that?”I yelled at her while defending her oncoming hits. I didn’t know where the words were coming from, but they kind of made sense and it seemed to make sense to her too because she stopped.
“What?” she asked.
I lowered my arms down but I was still on edge. Maybe I can get her to helping me out instead. “Yeah. My dad is trying to take me away from my boyfriend. But I should make my boyfriend happy right?”
“That’s right!” She replied. Man, whoever this woman’s husband was must have been lucky. She probably did everything he asked.
“And do you think it’s more important than making my father happy? Because every man should be happy, and my dad has had his turn right?” Now I was just rambling. Please oh please let this work.
Thankfully, the woman nodded. “You’re right. Need to make sure every man is happy. You’re dad had his turn.”
“Then can you help me?” I pleaded. I could still hear footsteps running around outside and some yelling. I’m going out on a huge limb here, but it’s all I got.
