This chapter is dedicated to @Ameliaxpowell because her comment on my previous chapter just made me cry tears of joy!
The sound of tires screeching as it swerved on the road echoed behind us. There was no sound of glass shattering so I assumed that they were okay. I threw my head back to look, and they were still behind us luckily. The shot only delayed them a few seconds and a few meters, but they caught up quickly to us.
“Dad! Stop!” I yelled, turning my head back to face him. He kept looking behind him and was in a position suggesting he was ready to fire another one.
“What did you do anyways huh?” he asked as he turned to face me wide-eyed. “How did they find us?”
I refused to answer but it seemed like my dad didn’t care whether or not I did so. He was too busy looking past me and at the guys behind us. I saw irritation and rage grow in my father’s eyes, and I feared for how far he would actually take this.
I screamed when another gunshot echoed around me. But it didn’t come from my dad but from who I assumed was Joe. It shattered the car’s left rear view mirror, which is the side my dad was sitting on. I saw my dad flinch as the shards of the mirror flew into his face, leaving small scratch marks. It drew blood but my dad didn’t seem to care. He took two deep breathes before leaning out the window and letting two bullets fly. This time I heard glass shattering.
I turned around and saw that the wind shield had been shattered. The car swerved a little and I was afraid that one of the guys was harmed, but Joe hit the remaining glass away so Alfie can see. There looked like a gash that ran across Joe’s forehead, and Alfie had one across his cheek, but other than that they looked okay.
“Speed up!” my dad yelled at Cooper. He stepped on the gas and the acceleration sickened me. I was afraid we were going to crash or swerve off the road.
The chase continued and once we got to a busier street, I thought it would calm down. But I was wrong. Cooper continued to drive haphazardly through the streets, causing havoc around the city. Buses and cabs honked at us, and pedestrians yelled at how we almost got them killed. Thank God we weren’t in London or else it’d be impossible to drive like this.
We skidded into another deserted road, but instead of pavement it was just dirt. I could no longer see Joe and Alfie or Marcus and Oli (they may have gone to the hospital instead) behind us. I felt a mixture of fear and relief at this. They couldn’t get hurt if they weren’t after us, but they also couldn’t save me.
We got to a clearing and my stomach dropped when I realized that it was a private airplane runway with a ready airplane at the end. This was real. I was really leaving now to who knows where. What makes it worse is that I don’t even know if Dexter is okay. Or if my dad was telling the truth that he’s still alive.
We slowed down as we approached the runway. I could feel my heart trying to escape my chest, wanting to get away from this living nightmare. Sadly, it stayed where it was, trapped in my rib cage as I was trapped in this car.
Cooper stopped the car and we skidded a bit, the screeching sound adding to the tension I was feeling.
“Get out,” my dad said. Immediately, the man on my left got out and pulled me along, the other guy shoving me lightly. I stumbled out of the car and if it weren’t for the guy on my right, I would have fallen on the ground. That would probably be more preferable though.
