I woke up feeling refreshed. The birds seem to be singing louder and the light that came in through the window looked brighter. (Actually, it was pretty grey and cloudy but I felt great so everything seemed to be too.)

Tonight, I would start my plan. I’ll ask Joe to continue to give me more of the sleeping pills, and I would tuck them away until it was needed. This would take some time, but I have plenty of it. Now, I just needed to think of a way to get it all into Joe’s system.

I pondered on it for a moment. Everything seemed a bit unrealistic, but one came to mind. Maybe it would work, and Joe would have a taste of his own medicine.

When Joe came in to give me a sandwich, I happily ate it. He watched me and I let him, but I did not speak. My plan was gradual, and if I started acting like I had forgiven him, he would be suspicious no doubt. So I ate silently and turned on the TV. There were more news about me, and I just changed the channel. I finished the sandwich and put it back on the plate. I drank the water and stared at the TV.

Joe sighed, and he picked up the empty glass and plate and left the room. I smiled to myself, and I felt like laughing, but I held it in. I wasn’t even sure if my plan would work, but I could already taste the freedom. And it sure tasted sweet.

It was late that night again, and this time I could barely keep my eyes open. I wanted to go to sleep, but I had to wait and I had to make it seem like I wasn’t able to sleep again. Stress does that to a person so it couldn’t be hard to believe.

Around what I believed to be one in the morning, I knocked on the door again. This time, lightly. I heard shuffling and the door opened, a sleepy looking Joe standing in front of me again.

                “Hi,” I mumbled.

“Hi,” he responded. He stared back at me and suddenly, I didn’t want to go through with the plan, but I had to.

“I-I can’t sleep again,” I said. He just nodded and closed the door. Moments later he came back and handed me a pill and water.

“Is that it?” he asked me. I nodded, but before he shut the door I stopped him.

“I know you must be doing what you think is right, but you need to know what you are doing to me, isn’t.”

Joe just looked at me, and before he could say anything I walked away. The door shut and clicked, and I sat down on the bed smiling to myself.

I know what I said was true, but it was the base of my plan. I had to ease myself into talking to him properly, and him knowing that what he did was wrong, but me acknowledging that he had good intentions was important. Things would be set and everything would be easy going. Thank you psychology.

I stuffed the pill into the pillow case of my pillow. I gulped down the water and cuddled myself into bed. I wrapped the thin blanket around me, and though it was cold, the happiness inside me burned to the surface, and that helped me sleep well for the second night in a row.

Pill after pill after pill. My pillow was filled with maybe ten now. Joe never questioned why I kept asking for some, and I’m glad he didn’t. But they weren’t for me anyways, but for him. Not all of it though, because I didn’t want him to die or overdose, but enough to keep him knocked out for half a day or maybe a full one.
