Chapter 23

Alei

"Oh, this feels so good." I exhaled as I laid back.

"Hey love how you feeling?"

"In pain but I'm just happy to be home."

"You took any of your medication?"

"Nah. I have to feed Gabe in a bit."

"Ya really gonna take that pain Alei?"

"Its not that bad once I don't pay attention to it." I shifted in the bed getting a bit more comfortable.

Since being back home, things been quiet. August and I had a long talk and we finally settled everything, where our feelings were concerned.

This accident really was an eye opening experience for me and it made me realize that I had to let go of what I was feeling especially with how I was allowing it to interfere with us as a couple.

"Is Aug here?"

"Yea he's in the studio, you want me to call him?"

"Yes please." I smiled.

"I will, but where's Amirah?"

"With her father. He took her to the movies."

"OK." She nodded.

I noticed a change in her tone which made me curious.

"Why? Is everything OK?"

"Yea, everything is fine." She smiled.

"OK well I guess you can tell me what's really on your mind."

Staring at me blankly, I did the same till she finally gave in.

"OK, it just bothered me a bit how he just dropped everything and came out here for you."

"Not for me."

"So who else then?"

"His daughter. Aug told me that he called him and told him about the accident and he was concerned for me but more so Amirah."

"Mmm." She nodded.

"What?"

"That boy still loves you Aleisha."

"Come again?"

"You may not see it, but its there. He still loves you."

"That doesn't really matter at this point in my life."

"Oh really, well let me ask you something."

"OK." I shifted trying to sit up completely.

"If both Aug and Druex were drowning, and you could only save one, who would it be?"

"Really Ms. Sheila?"

"Yes really."

"Knowing myself, I would die trying to save them both." I sighed.

"OK but who would you go to first?"

"Aug." I whispered then smiled to myself.

In the midst of that, I thought back on how everything been from when we began to hang out.

Despite everything that's happened, with Aug has been the happiest I've been in a while.

"What's that love?"

"Aug!" I looked up at her and smiled.

"Yo!"

Same time he walked in and answered.
