Alei

"But he isn't speaking to me." I sighed.

"You need to make him. I know my son and this silence with him isn't good."

"So why don't you talk to him? I'm honestly not trying to get snapped on."

"Knowing that you feel the same, he won't. Plus he opens up to you more."

Sighing, I rubbed my temple as I felt a headache coming on. We were a couple minutes away from this private funeral for our daughter and everything was basically in order.

For the past ten minutes, Aug's mother been trying to get me to talk to him because he isn't speaking to anyone unless you ask a question.

I understood how he was feeling and that was why I chose not to say anything but she's been insisting.

"Fine!" I whisper yelled at her before making my way upstairs.

Entering our room, I noticed he wasn't there till I heard his voice come across the baby monitor.

"Time ta say goodbye ta ya big sis huh lah man?"

As though he understood, Gabe cooed, answering him it seemed.

"Yea, I'll miss her too, but at least she looking out fa us now."

Wiping the few tears from my face, I walked out and went over to the nursery.

"Babe?"

"Yo?" He looked at me.

"You want me to make you something to eat? You haven't eaten all day."

"I'm good baybeh."

"Are you sure? I dont want you to get a headache you know." I approached him.

"I'm sure." He kissed my cheek.

Putting his attention back on Gabriel, Aug just stared at him. Laying there with his thumb in his mouth, he looked at us as he sucked away.

"Pass me them hand socks thing!" August asked.

"Aug leave him alone." I shook my head.

"Nope. We're dealing with this now. Ion want my son sucking his finger like that."

"But he will stop on his own."

"Yea like how you stopped right."

"That's different."

"Nah it ain't. I'm not bout to have him continue this."

As soon as he removed Gabe's hand from his mouth, he instantly began to cry.

"August just leave him. Its a comfort thing, jeez."

Pushing past him, I picked up Gabe and began to sooth him.

"He's a boy Alei, he'on need ta be doing that."

"I know but he's a baby at the same time. Amirah stopped when she was like six months."

"And why yeen stopped."

"Because its a control mechanism for me."

"Really?" He stared at me.

"Yes really. You want me to end up in jail for my anger and tripping off on someone."

"Whatever." He mumbled as he cleaned up.

"Can I get a kiss?"

Giving me his attention, I stood there pouting, making a sad face.

"How can a nigga say no ta that face."
