Alei
Laying in bed as Gabriel nursed, I awaited the results of the tests that were done on me.
Aside from a couple fractured ribs and a dislocated shoulder, physically I seemed ok.
"Ouch."
Hissing in pain as Gabriel nursed, I tried not to think too much of it. Though I was on pain medication, because I was breastfeeding, it wasn't the strong ones.
"Baybeh stop if ya in pain."
"He'll just fuss and fret and I don't want him too."
Laying my head back, I closed my eyes trying not to focus on it. Hearing a knock on the door, I put my attention on it and in walked my mother.
"Oh my God." She covered her mouth as she cried.
"It's ok mommy. I'm ok now."
"You sure?"
"Yes. Aug brought me back to life." I smiled as I looked at him.
Sitting by the window, he looked over at me and smiled before looking back out. I knew he was thinking about our daughter and I knew it was hurting him.
"Who is this handsome one?"
"Say hello to your grandson, Gabriel."
"I love that name." She smiled.
"Me too." I whispered.
"I know you're in physical pain."
"I am but its OK. Where's Amirah?"
"In the waiting area with Cydney and Chantal. Apparently she's too young to come in."
"Babe."
"I'm on it ma." He got up.
Regardless of her age, I needed my daughter next to me.
"Any word yet on anything?"
"No." I shook my head. "I don't know and can't really remember anything."
"That's OK babe. We'll get to the bottom of this. Your father is already angry as is."
"You told him everything?"
"Yea."
"Including."
"Mhmm. He's heartbroken but still grateful that you and this little one came out OK."
Focusing on Gabe, he was asleep. Asking my mother to take him, I tried to sit up. Seeing my struggle, Ms. Sheila came over and helped me.
Not too long After Aug came back in with Mirah in his arms. Seeing me, her face lit up.
The thought of leaving her behind was too much to bare. I didn't know what would have been her reaction and I don't want to know.
"Mommy's lady bug." I kissed her cheek as she leaned down at me.
"Mommy you OK?"
"I am now that I've seen this beautiful face." I smiled and coughed a bit.
"Mommy face bruise." She pointed out.
"Mhmm. Mommy was in an accident but we are good. Grandma has your brother over there."
Turning around to face us, Amirah wiggled out of Aug's arms and went to my mother.
Sitting with Gabriel, Amirah went up closely and placed a kiss on his head.
"Sleepy baby." She whispered.
