Rose x Mason

(In a life where Mason wasn't dead and Dimitri stayed strigoi. I also havnt read the books in a while, sorry if there are any mistakes)

I was walking around the campus, it was daytime so everyone was asleep but my mind had been wide awake. It had been a few months since everyone graduated but I agreed to stay and keep watch while Lissa was off doing her thing. I checked the perimeters and sat down on the ground taking a breather. I didn't have long before I heard footsteps coming closer. I jumped up taking out my silver stake and spinning into position.  I relaxed and smiled "its just you Mason" I put my weapon away and met him half-way. We did our handshake and began walking around the perimeter. "Why are you here? I thought you were going to the castle with Lissa" he said.

I shrugged kicking the ground "I was but she wanted some alone time so i'll leave in the few weeks to join her. Plus I can sense if anythings wrong" I explained. Things had been awkward between Mason and I after I came back from my hunt of Dimitri. "Look Rose, I know you need time but I'm always here for you. I know you think of me like a brother but.." he stopped his sentence and I looked over at him. I knew he liked me but now he was about to fully confess. "Just know i'm here for you" he said and started to walk off. I watched him make his way back to the the campus. "Mason wait!" I called running up to him, he turned around a little to fast making him slip a little.

"Look i'll see if i'm free later and we can go grab a bite or something and catch up" I offered, his face lit up and he nodded before walking off.  I sighed rubbing my eyes. "I should get some sleep before the actually day starts" I muttered I jogged to my room and just went to bed without doing anything.

I woke up and looked out my window seeing the sun set. I got up and stretched my muscles before making my way to Kirova's office and avoiding any students. I knocked on the door and heard a come in. I walked in a walked over "I was hoping I could go take my break today with Mason?" I asked, after the whole ordeal I was nicer to authority figures. "I will allow it Ms. Hathaway" she said not looking up from her papers. I thanked her before leaving and jogging to Masons new room and knocking on the door.

"Come in!" he called, I opened the door and walked in and over to his bed. "Hey, I'm off today, where do you wanna go?" I asked as he was buttoning his shirt. "Lets just leave the academy for a little" he grinned, I nodded and we got up to leave.

I laughed slamming my hand on the table. I looked at Mason who had a cocky grin. "I swear!" he chuckled, we had been off drinking at some small bar.  "I miss these times" I sighed, I thought back to the memories I created with him during schooling. "I do too, when we were naive" he said as we both thought back. "Hey Rose, i want to catch up some more and maybe take you out on an official date" he said I stopped and stared at him. He was always good to me and never let anyone hurt me so it was worth a try. I would be lying when I said I never thought of the possibilities.

I smiled and nodded "sure, I think it would be fun" he grinned and I thought he would be stuck like that. "I'm free next week if you want to do it then" I said smiling. I could get used to this even dare I say having him as a boyfriend.
