****PART 2****

(RATING:RIVALRY/FLUFF)

Ash was stunned at Gary's sudden burst of what seemed to be confusion and anger. Never in a million years would Ash ever guess that Gary would react like that to a silly comment. Ash noticed Gary's Umbreon, its eyes furrowed and droopy, the dog lifted its head up to the sky and let out a distressed cry.

Ash stuck his hand out to Umbreon, which it proceeded to sniff. He rubbed Umbreon's back in a slow circular motion. "It's ok... he'll be fine. Unfortunately, I don't have any more potions to heal you, so why don't we go and find my mom and Professor Oak? I know for a fact that they'll have some." Ash smiled, as he started to pack his bag carefully, leaving it partially open for Pikachu, who was knocked out from his fight.

Ash searched for his mom and Professor Oak, until he found them under a bright blue beach umbrella. They greeted Ash and Umbreon with a slight wave as they approached them. Delia took notice of Umbreon's wounds, and immediately started to tend to them.

"Ash, did something happen between you and Gary? Just a couple of minutes ago, we saw him sprinting to the rocks, over there," Professor Oak pointed to a giant collection of bedrock by the ocean. "However, judging by the look on his face, he looked upset,"

Ash was unsure how to explain what had happened, especially the part after the battle. He didn't want to convey information about a situation that Gary was uncomfortable about. As much as he fought with Gary, Ash still had a sense of decency. He waved the matter off through nervous laughter, set down his back pack, and sat down next to his mom. A part of him wanted to run off and find Gary, but he decided against it. If Gary really wanted to talk with him, he would. Besides, even if Ash were to find him, he would probably run away again. Laying down on his towel, Ash's movements grew cumbersome and sluggish. Luminous heat from the sun enveloped Ash in a cozy embrace, urging him to unwind. Under such influence, his eyelids slowly drew closer together, while his thoughts ran further apart.

"You guys are going down!" Ash stirred from his dreams, and wiped the buildup from his eyes. Confused, he spotted a nearby volleyball game, where a guy was jumping up and down in excitement. A subdued laugh escaped his lips, before he lifted himself to a sitting position. Turning around, Ash's eyes widened as he saw a recognizable figure in a slight rock, with his knees to his chest. Gary's eyes swarmed with uncertainty as he slowly looked over at Ash- his expression brimmed with inner conflict.

"Hey, where is everyone," Ash inquired.

"They decided to go for a walk," Gary started to draw in the sand with his finger.

Ash's heart plummeted as he realized he and Gary were completely alone for who knows how long.

For a minute or so, the two boys remained silent.

Finally Gary spoke up "Hey, I'm sorry I ran off earlier," he started "it's just, I don't know what got into me, I just..." Gary trailed off.

"It's fine," Ash quickly interjected, not wanting things to get too awkward. "I'm just glad you're okay now,"

"You are?" Gary choked out in surprise, his heart prepared to beat out of his chest.

"Well of course," Ash said "Something about watching you be embarrassed like that that makes me upset," Ash had a look of genuine concern on his face, something that Gary didn't expect to see.

Deciding to go out on a limb, Gary spoke up once again "I can't believe how nice you are being to me. Even when I make fun of you relentlessly. I guess that's just the kind of person you are. To tell you the truth, Ash, I have always viewed you as a formidable rival... but in the past couple of years, I started to feel..." Gary's words faded away.

Ash tilted his head unsure of what Gary was trying to spit out. He offered the auburn a small grin. "More?" Ash completed Gary's sentence with a semblance of hesitation.

Gary's build sloped in disbelief, but his eyes sparkled with desire. "You too?"

Ash nodded sheepishly.

"Look Ash I'm sorry for being mean to you. I'm not good with expressing my feelings...obviously," Gary finally swallowed his pride. "I promise I will do anything to make it up to you. You just say the words, Ash and I'll do it."

With so much power at his fingers, Ash was uncertain on what to do next. A devious grin finally settled on the young trainer's mouth "Well, for starters, you could kiss me,"

Gary quickly matched his rival's facial expression, as his eyebrows furrowed. Ash nodded a confirmation, and inched closer to Gary - who didn't hesitate any further. Gary pulled Ash into him, and firmly pressed his lips to those of the raven haired boy. The kiss was sweet yet demanding on both ends. The noise of their surroundings slowly faded into silence and time halted as the two boys deepened the kiss, explosive passion emanating from them. One was like water in the desert to the other; they simply could not get enough. The boys unwillingly pulled away from each other in need of air, while reality set in once again.

"That was..." Ash started but couldn't find the right words to finish.

"Yeah," Gary agreed, his eyes swimming with fervor for his rival.

"Hey you two," Delia shouted as she and Professor Oak were still at a distance, coming back from their walk. "What have you two been up to?"

Ash started to giggle uncontrollably, while Gary tried to keep his cool "Oh, you know, just talking," Gary shook his head in disappointment for giving such a stupid answer, but he couldn't take it back now.

"Oh really, without yelling at each other?" Professor Oak asked in complete shock.

"Yeah, I guess a little time spent face to face is just what we needed," Ash quipped, slightly nudging Gary on the shoulder.

"Oh, Ash, always a joker." Gary acknowledged, and the two boys broke out into laughter.
