the next few chapters (20-23) will focus on seungjin but has no big relation to the main plot
if you don't want to read then you can skip, it explains hyunjin's backstory as well

warning: implications of sex

"oh." he blushed. "i'm sorry." he lowered his head, backing away. his head swan from all the sobbing he had just done, but he pushed through, not wanting to look like a fool in front of hyunjin's sister. wait... why did he even care?

"how do you even know my name?" he asked. yeji smiled. "oh-"

"yeji?" a raspy voice sounded from the couch. seungmin looked down, shocked. quickly starting to run away, he attempted to leave before hyunjin fully gained consciousness. cutting off ties right in front of his twin wasn't really the way seungmin preferred to do the deed.

"so... how are you feeling after drowning... let's see... 13 cans of beer out of stress?" yeji snapped. "you dumbass! that's not what you do!"

seungmin was already fleeing. due to rushing, he didn't see chan walking down and almost crashed head-on into the older. "oh! seungmin, who's here?" he asked.

"just yeji. and hyunjin." he trailed off. "i don't think i should confront him now." he looked down at his feet. "he's hung over anyways."

"yea." patting seungmin on the back, chan said. "i think you should go calm yourself down in your room. do it whenever you're ready, okay?" nodding, seungmin hurried his way into his room. tiredly shutting the door, he crumpled on the floor the moment he was sure he was alone.

the sight of yeji with hyunjin had infuriated him at first. he didn't even have the right. scoffing at his own pathetic self, seungmin pressed up against the cold surface of his bedroom door. did he really have the guts to cut off hyunjin? the consequences were too painful were definitely going to make for an awkward time.

he cringed. merely thinking about it made him feel uncomfortable. the thought of ditching hyunjin... it hurt. there were so many pros of keeping it like they always did, but he knew that the both of them really didn't deserve the shackles their relationship had left them with.

even if it hurt, he had to do it for hyunjin and himself.

what seungmin didn't know was that hyunjin had never gone even near anyone else after he had met seungmin.

he also didn't know that hyunjin's trip to the city was to buy the perfect confession gift.

{next morning}

hyunjin blinked his eyes open, a rush of nerves instantly activating in him. he was going to confess to seungmin and... hopefully ask him out. sitting up, he gently took the black ring case that was resting on his nightstand.

he sat up and snapped it open, revealing two simple silver rings with diamond details. he had indeed felt a little insecure buying the rings, as they were in an early stage of their relationship. he couldn't really tell what they were at the moment, and hyunjin was ready to put a label on it. he just hoped that seungmin was ready too.

"you have to like them, min." he had it all planned out. he would walk into seungmin's room at exactly 11 am, right before they usually went downstairs, confess, and hopefully walk down with a boyfriend. giggling excitedly, he checked the time. 10:57 am.

three minutes early didn't hurt, did it? quickly cleaning himself up in the mirror, he took the rings and nervously made his way next door.

knocking, he ran his thumb along the edge of the box. all he could do now was hope for the best. he waited, but there was no answer. was he still sleeping? but hyunjin knew, seungmin didn't like to sleep past 10am. he knocked one more time.

on the other side of the door, seungmin was actually standing there with his hand on the doorknob. he had been getting ready to walk out when he heard the knock. he had then been way too nervous to open the door and simply froze.

shaking his nerves out, seungmin croaked out. "who is it?" coughing, he stepped back. "its me, can you open the door?" he heard hyunjin's muffled voice and froze once more. how could he possibly face him? but then again, he couldn't just stand there like a fool.

"come in." he snapped. seungmin hadn't been meaning to lash out like that, but his anxiety had gotten ahead of him. "sorry. im just... not really in a good mood." the door creaked open, revealing a nervous-looking hyunjin in a black hoodie and sweats.

seungmin winced. all he could think about was how he had worn that hoodie two days ago. "what do you need?" he said coldly. "are you... okay?" hyunjin slipped the box into his pocket.

"i'm fine." seungmin sighed. "what do you need. if you don't need anything, then leave-" seungmin pointed to the door, but didn't expect that hyunjin would grab onto his arm and pull him. letting out a small yelp of surprise, he ended up smothered in his hoodie.

"you're obviously not fine. now, what's the problem?" hyunjin soothingly mumbled.

seungmin gritted his teeth. "us. we're the problem." he pushed his shoulders, stumbling away. "we can't continue doing this."

"what? keep doing what?" hyunjin was taken aback. sure, he hadn't been very smart yesterday, but why was seungmin so angry?

"this! you fuck around, i know it. yesterday you went to the city to go to a club and came back at 3 am. you probably slept with someone, didn't you?" seungmin snapped. "i can't keep doing this if you're going to fuck around like that. i actually thought-" he tearfully scoffed. "whatever. i'm not going to keep this up with you, hyunjin. so fucking leave. get out." seungmin bit his lip. maybe his words had been a bit to harsh, but i was necessary.

"you think i slept with someone?" hyunjin whispered. "i didn't, really. i wouldn't lead you on like that." he couldn't form any better sentences, for he had began to shake.

"then what the fuck is this?" the other pushed a phone screen into his face, trembling. "what is this, hyunjin? you're playing me, aren't you?" seungmin knew that he was way too emotional to think straight, but pushed on.

"i was drunk, seungmin. i know i was stupid, but i really didn't-" hyunjin desperately stepped forward.

"don't come near me." seungmin stalked towards the door. "i'm breaking up with you. wait... who am i kidding? we're not dating. we never were anything." bitterly chuckling he turned back around. "if you're not going to leave, i am." he didn't know why, but this was psychically paining him. seungmin felt like throwing up and he had begun to feel dizzy.

"no, what are you doing? don't do this to us, seungmin." hyunjin gasped, panicking.

"us? where? it was always you, me, and fake feelings." seungmin uttered, staggering. leaning onto the door for support, he accusingly pointed at the crying latter. "i'm leaving and don't try to stop me."

"i love you." hyunjin blurted out of pure desperation. "i love you, so don't leave."

seungmin drew in a sharp breath. he had the strong urge to just go and kiss the boy in front of him, tell him that he loved him too, hold his hand, and tell him that it would all be okay. but he couldn't do that. "no you don't." he winced at the fresh wave of pain. the world was spinning, and everything hurt. "you don't."

with those whispered words, seungmin fell to knees.

"seungmin!" hyunjin's eyes widened and he immediately rushed to the other.

"don't touch me, you're disgusting." seungmin raised his head to glare at him. hyunjin drew back, the words hitting him hard. he knew that there was no way seungmin could have found out, but the memories rushed back nonetheless.

a pained whimper pulled him out of the thoughts. hyunjin blinked open his eyes, breathing aggressively. seungmin shakily grabbed the doorknob and tried to pull himself up.

"i hate you."

then seungmin collapsed onto the ground.
