Y/N
"Castiel," John started. "What are you doing in Kansas?"
"I was running." Castiel said plainly, his expression never changing from the neutral one he wore from the beginning of this conversation.
"Running from what?" John asked.
"Michael," He said. "Our pack's Alpha."
"I thought you northerners didn't even think of the concept of leaving their pack." Dean said, giving the loner a look I've never seen him give anyone before.
"I needed to find this pack," He said. "I needed to warn you."
"Yeah," Sam scoffed with a slight chuckle. "You have a funny way of showing it, seeing as you almost attacked me at first sight." I laid my hand on his arm, causing him to look over to me. I gave him a look that told him to calm down, staying silent due to the tradition that only fully claimed pack members could talk unless spoken to.
"Yes," Castiel said. "I apologize for that, I thought you were someone else."
He glanced at me and said: "And, she smelled different than anyone I've seen in this part of the country."
"That's because I'm not from here." I explained. "I'm a betrothal."
He gave me a confused look, tilting his head to the side. "Why would two packs betroth two alphas?"
I shrugged in return. I wondered that myself, but mostly why two packs would betroth anyone anyway. It hasn't been done for a few decades, so why start now? When I asked my dad all he said was: "To protect."
"Alright, back on track guys." Dean said. "Cas, I'm gonna call you Cas, what was so important that you had to run from your pack, and get your freaking shoulder dislocated in the process,"
"It's the Dovraga pack." He said. "They plan on coming here and attacking your pack. Michael won't make a move to prevent it."
"Why would the Dovraga pack want to attack us, when the Code clearly states that neutral packs are to be kept out of any war scenes?" Sam asked.
"The Dovraga pack doesn't care about much of the Code anymore." Cas replied. "We're fighting a war. Some of those rules slip away when you're trying to win."
"I guess that would explain why they've been spotted on our territory." Bobby stated.
"They're scouting." Cas said. "Michael believes they are looking for something. So they're using the battle to distract everyone while they find whatever they're looking for."
"What would they be looking for?" Dean asked looking to his father
"I don't know," John said. He looked to Cas, who shrugged.
"They killed the Dovragan before he could reveal it. Michael decided to go along with it. Whatever they want, it's important to Lucifer, They're going to intercept the battle or send scouts to keep an eye out to see who separates from the battle. Then, they will destroy whatever they find."
"So, Lucifer," Dean started. "the Alpha of Dovraga pack, is interested in something from a small pack in Kansas."
"When are they coming?" John said with panic ever so slightly lacing his tone.
"I don't know." Cas replied. "Only the alphas are given the privilege of knowing when we strike. The betas are commanders that keep the subordinates in line."
I glanced over to see John have a hard look on his face. It seemed as if he was thinking. He stood in silence for a minute until he finally looked up at Cas and said: "All this doesn't explain your wounds."
"When I found out of my pack's plan to go along with murdering your entire pack, I tried to convince them that we should help your pack. When they refused, I decided to warn you in secret. I was caught by my brother, Raphael." There was a short silence between everyone. "I will not be able to go back. They will surely kill me on the sight of their territory."
"Well," Dean said, spreading out his arms. "You're welcome to be part of this pack."
"Dean, come on," Sam said. "You can't seriously be thinking of trusting this guy. We barely even know who he is."
"I am Castiel, a beta of the..."
"Yeah, the Raj pack, you told us that." Sam said growing annoyed. "Which gives us a better reason not to trust you."
"Oh, come on Sam," Dean defended. "Look at him! Do you think the Raj pack would go as far as dislocating his shoulder to make it look convincing?"
"I think, that the Raj pack members are trained to be loyal, mindless, soldiers since before the Code was created."
"GUYS!" I finally yelled, having had enough of their bullshit. Tradition or not, this was getting nowhere. They both looked at me, seemingly surprised by me even saying anything. No one seemed to say anything about me having to be quiet, so I continued. "I think this is something for the Alpha of the pack to decide."
Everyone looked towards John, awaiting an answer.
"If his information is valid," John said. "He will be welcome into this pack with open arms. Until then, he will have someone watching him at all times."
The boys gave each other a 'fine but I won't like it' look and the conversation moved on. Dean volunteered to take the first watch on him, which Sam mentioned was odd because he hated being the bodyguard with anyone that wasn't him. I paid no mind to it but made a slight note of it.
The rest of the day went pretty fast. Sam and I went back to the house and talked. Most of it was just small talk with a few stories about our childhood. One of his was him dressing up as Batman for Halloween and jumped off of the house because he thought he could fly. He made an excuse saying it was after Dean had jumped first, but he jumped because he was dressed up as Superman.
"You do know Batman can't fly right?" I asked.
"I didn't at the time I didn't," He objected. "I was five years old!"
"And I was seven when Y/B/N had to pull me out of a tree!"
"Okay, but seriously? At least I was brave enough to jump off," He teased.
"More like stupid enough," I giggled. I looked outside. It was dark out, with the half-full moon high in the sky. "I think I'm gonna go to bed,"
"Okay," Sam replied. "I think I'll head up too." We walked upstairs together and stopped at my room.
"Well, today was an interesting day," I said.
"Yeah," Sam replied. "Who would've thought a Raj pack member would rebel,"
"Yeah," I replied. I looked up at him and I couldn't help the immediate instinct that overtook me. I reached up on the tips of my toes, wrapped my arms around his neck, and pressed my lips against his. Sam seemed to hesitate for a fraction of a second before he leaned into the kiss, cupping my cheek with one of his massive hands and wrapping his other arm around my waist.
Eventually, we broke off, fresh air flooding into our lungs like a broken dam. We starred at each other for a short moment, before I found the strength to pull away, with every fiber in my body begging me to do otherwise.
"Um, g-goodnight," I said, mentally kicking myself for stuttering.
"Goodnight," Sam replied with a very small smirk on his face as he turned and walked away.
