A/N: I'm only doing Christmas because of a certain plant, but all respect to those of you who don't celebrate it!
One glance at my calendar and I had the whole house awake with my squealing. "The Great Vacker Christmas Party is tomorrow!" I screeched at Princess Bitty-Ears, my favorite cat stuffed animal. She fell over. "Sorry," I whispered, rushing over to stand her back up. "Too loud?"
"A bit," I new voice said from behind my bedroom door.
"Ugh, Fitz," I said, half to myself, half to Princess Bitty-Ears. I crossed the room and opened the door to greet my half-asleep brother. "Aren't you excited?"
"Yeah," he admitted. "But not at four in the morning. I'm not even supposed to be awake yet, never mind you. Go back to sleep, Biana. We can talk about this later."
I stuck my tongue out at him and he rolled his eyes and shut the door. A few seconds later I heard his door shut, and then his bed creaking as he climbed back into it. I did the same, but was too hyped up to fall asleep. When my alarm went off at 6:00, I was laying in the exact same position I was when I got back into bed, having a full blown conversation with Princess Bitty-Ears.
"What's the special occasion?" Dex asked, eyeing my dress.
"Only the most spectacular event of the year!" I exclaimed tossing invitations to him, Sophie, and Jensi. I caught Jensi's eye and twirled around. "You like the dress?" I asked him. It was green with white puffy sleeves and a thick black band around the waist.
He smiled. "It looks perfect on you."
"Of course!" Sophie said after she read the invitation all the way through. "The Vacker Party!"
"Yes!" I squealed and ran off to find the rest of my friends.
~Time Skip~
The doorbell rung. The first guest! I ran through the house as fast as I could in the long, red dress I had changed into. Fitz got to the door just a second before me, and the first thing Sophie saw when it was opened was me charging full speed at her.
"SOPHIIIIIEEEEE!" I screeched and, unable to slow the sprint I had worked up, crashed into her. In an attempt to keep my balance and to make the accident seem less like an accident, I wrapped my arms around her shoulders. Miraculously, neither of us went down. Sophie was still petrified when I pulled away from her to study her.
She was wearing a short, dark red dress and black leggings (A/N: Basically what she's wearing on the cover of Lodestar). "You're the first one here," I informed her. "I want to surprise the others. Want to help?"
Sophie smiled. "I think I have an idea."
Sophie's idea was impressive, an it only got better when Keefe arrived early. Together, we made toilet paper roll confetti poppers, and filled with cut up paper and half my glitter collection. Then, Sophie and Keefe each took loaded confetti poppers and sat on either side of the door, waiting. Soon we heard footsteps. Keefe winked. Sophie smiled.
Huh. I thought. I wonder what that's all about. I shrugged it off, but there was a nagging feeling in the back of my mind that Keefe's wink had nothing to do with the plan we had devised.
Jensi was that person, walking up to the front door. As the homemade confetti flew into the air, I followed it with my eyes. It went up, up, up, then hit the ceiling and started to fall. But I didn't watch as it dropped to the ground, my eyes were glued to one specific spot on the ceiling.
That's when I realized the full extent of Sophie and Keefe's plan.
