"If you don't shut up, I will kill you!"

"You couldn't even kill a fly." A raspy voice retorts. The man is either brave or stupid, or both.

This is what I get for walking at night in a dangerous area. I could have gone straight to my house but I wanted to explore, look at my luck.

"You will regret that." I need to step in, I can not hear a man die and know I did not help at all but I could die.

"Hey, you-" Why am I acting brave, this could get me killed "-Step away from him. The police are on their way!" Who am I kidding, this is the day I meet my ancestors. The man looks in my direction and flees.

"You should have not done that." The raspy voice says, he should be more thankful that I saved his life.

"And hear you die, uhm, I don't think so. I also deserve a thank you. Let's get you to a hospital." walking closer to the injured man.

"No hospitals." Gangsters and their avoidance of hospital, though understandable, is stupid.

"Let's go to my house, luckily I have a first aid kit." He is leaning on me for support. "It is close by."

"Thank you." He says breathing heavily from the pain.

"You are welcome." As we walk down the street, the silence is deafing.

"Wait, are your parents not going to freak out?"

"They are not around." He painfully nods and we continue in silence until the house is in sight.

I unlock the door with one arm. I lead him to a chair in the living room. I never knew the use of that chair until now.

"Let me fetch the first aid kit." I make way to the bathroom and I am praying that he does not take anything. "Do you want some water?" I place the kit on the counter near the chair, where he sits.

"If it's not too much to ask." he looks at me weirdly, not in gratitude.

"Not at all." I pour him a glass of warm water. I place it near him and I open the kit to take out the disinfectant. His face scrunches due to the pain he is in. "Sorry." I say sending a soothing smile. I began with his legs and moved upwards.

I asked him to remove his shirt because of the scratches and bruises. He has a lot of scars, new ones and old ones.

"How do you know to do all of this?"

"My mother is a nurse. I was a clumsy child so she taught me how to clean myself in case she is not there."

"You are cute." I blush,

"Thank you." I move to his face. He had a cracked lip and a scratch on his forehead.

"All done. Just remember to let them breath." I say standing far away from him because my logic finally came back.

"Thank you." He says and I nod.

"What is your name?" I say looking at him as if he is a science project, you keep them until they have served their purpose, then they are discarded.

"Josh, you?" His name sounded bland if you asked me.

"May, nice to meet you Josh." I say shaking his hand. He walks towards the door. He walks with a limp but I think he feels better. I would not know I am not him.

"I hope to see you soon, good night May." He looks at me with dreamy eyes and a suggestive smile.

"Bye." I say with a wave and a giddy smile.

"Before I forget, stop playing a hero. You could have gotten killed, tonight. " I nod and he leaves.

Shutting the door, part of me is anxious because I just did that, the other part of me is sure that this is the beginning of a whole new adventure.
