I didn't tell Zendaya or Arthur what happened. I figured I would wait until the last minute to tell them so I wouldn't have to deal with their reactions and disappointment for too long. I sat in the Common Room next to the fireplace with one of McGonagall's transfiguration books in my lap. I don't know why I was continuing on with my assigned reading from her. Maybe to help keep my mind off of Pansy and Umbridge and expulsion? I wondered if they will let me stay at Hogwarts for at least the next few days until we can go home for break.
However, as the night went on, Pansy, Theodore, Blaise, nor Umbridge came into the Common Room. Every time the passage opened, I would look up, but only to find other Slytherins walking through it. Hours passed and soon it dwindled almost to midnight and still there were no sign of those four. What could possibly be taking so long? Are they scheming the best way to make my expulsion a show for the whole castle to see? Are actual Ministry officials being called in for their input?
Either way, I was exhausted from the long day and ended up going to bed, thinking that everything will happen the next day.
However, when I woke up and went to breakfast with Zendaya and Arthur, I found Pansy with her group of friends at their usual spot at the Slytherin table, laughing about something. There were no bruises on her face from when I punched her nor did she snicker a comment about me being in trouble with Umbridge when she glanced at me.
"What are you looking at, Black?" She sneered, as she usually does.
I bit back a comment as we made our way down to our normal seating. At the far end of the table, I spotted Blaise and Theodore casually chatting. He must have felt me staring because he glanced down at me. His lips turned into a thin line before turning back to Blaise. I glanced up at the Professors' table and spotted Umbridge enjoying her omelette. She didn't once look my way.
What is going on?
"Everything okay?" Zendaya asked with a raised eyebrow.
"I don't know," I frowned.
"You were really quiet last night. Did something happen?"
"Did you get in a fight?" Arthur asked casually.
"How do you know?" I gaped.
"Your hands were red last night and they look bruised now." He pointed to my hand. It was still mainly red, but a couple dark bruises had started to form.
"It's a story, I'll explain later," I waved off Zendaya as she opened her mouth, probably to start interrogating me. "Just let me figure out what's going on first, okay?"
To my surprise, nothing about the fight was brought up at all. Even in Umbridge's class, nothing was mentioned and she didn't give me knowing looks or smiles. Pansy didn't even bring up anything and treated me as normal like our fight and her promise of getting me expelled didn't happen. Theodore and Blaise also didn't glance my way and acted like everything was okay.
I almost started questioning if that fight really did happen. There was only one thing to check out before I can admit myself into a psych ward.
Around dinnertime, I was able to find Fred and drag him into an empty classroom.
"Me beating up Pansy did happen last night, right?" I immediately asked him once the door closed.
The Weasley twin blinked at me. "Yeah?"
"And Pansy did promise she was going to go to Umbridge to get me expelled, right?"
He nodded.
"Then why are Umbridge, Pansy, Nott, and Blaise all pretending like nothing happened? You didn't do anything, did you?" I raised an eyebrow at him.
