Studying the following weeks were a chore to do since Mom fled Hogwarts. Thankfully, the buzz of that event didn't last long as exams approached and everyone, even students from other years, had to study for their upcoming final exams. However, Umbridge wouldn't let it go. Each time we met eyes, she would give me one of those stupid, triumphant, wide smiles of hers, followed by an extra spring in her step. A week after Mom fled, I ended up taking a break from studying for an hour to go plague Umbridge's office one evening with some of the leftover glitter bombs Fred gave me as well as transfigured all of her pink, antique teacups into snakes. When I returned to the Common Room and was asked where I was by my friends, I simply told them that I was practicing a spell and promptly returned to my book.

I didn't receive any other word regarding my mother. However a couple days after she ran, a couple Ministry officials visited the school to ask me what happened and asked if I knew of her involvement with Sirius or Dumbledore. I told them what I could, thankfully, I didn't have to act like the whole ordeal pained and stunned me, as I was still reeling about what I yelled at her.

All the fifth-years were so busy with their nose in a book or notes that another layer of silence swept through the castle. Zendaya became an anxious one and was reciting definitions continuously. Arthur was practicing wand movements, but the second his hand even shifted even the slightest the wrong way, he would growl at his hand, looks at his notes on wand movements, then proceeded to practice that same movement for an hour before going on to the next. I, myself, have resulted to practicing the incantations, making sure that I was properly saying them and then spelled them. Cora and Harold were very patient with us and offered to help with our studying with Cora testing us and Harold making sure our incantations and wand movements were correct.

"Remember, if you move your wand the other way-" He started saying before I cut him off.

"I know, I know. The spell will explode."

Before I knew it, the first day of O.W.L.s was upon us.

Day 1: Charms

Written: The wand goes up, right? Wait, no, you flick the wand! Dangit, I have to scratch that out. Make sure to note that you enunciate the 'o' in wingardium leviosa. What was the definition for the Cheering Charm one, again?

Practical: I impressed Professor Marchbanks, my examiner, with each successful spell I conjured.

"I see why they allowed you to take O.W.L.s now," she nodded, giving me the okay to be dismissed.

Day 2: Transfiguration

Written: What was that one theory called? McGonagall is so going to kill me if she finds out I forgot! Vanishing spell? Please, McGonagall made sure I knew that spell inside and out since it's considered amongst the hardest spells. I got this.

Practical: Easy-peasy lemon squeezie! McGonagall, you better be ready for me next year! If I return next year... Focus, Amelia!

Day 3: Herbology

Written: What are the signs of Devil Snare? Crap, I never realized how much I neglected this class until now. I managed, but man, I wish I could say I did good, much less great.

Practical: I almost punched the Fanged Geranium when it bit me, but when I caught the examiner's watchful gaze, I had to bit my tongue and pretend everything was ok.

Day 4: Defense Against the Dark Arts

Written: Boy, am I glad Remus gave me all those additional notes and tips. Oh! I know the answer to that question! Thank you Harry for teaching me that spell. Not sure if what I did was good, but I walked out of that exam pretty content with myself.
