Remus POV
My foot tapped rapidly against the floor as I stared at the door waiting for (Y/N) to turn up to Potions class. My heart rate accelerated with every passing second she wasn't here and I knew it was because of me. I clenched my fists and shut my eyes, trying desperately to get my heart rate down.
'Mr Lupin, are you okay?' Professor Slughorn said. Quickly opening my eyes, I smiled and nodded. Professor Slughorn's interruption apparently enough to calm me down 'Now where is your friend....'
'(Y/N)' I snapped, irritated by the fact Professor Slughorn still hadn't managed to remember (Y/N)'s name.
'Yes... Yes... Where is she? We need to start today's lesson.' He said, looking back and forth between the door and (Y/N)'s empty seat.
'I don't know Professor. I haven't seen her today.' I explained. Professor Slughorn nodded and marched over to the door, closing it with such force the sound of the door shutting echoed throughout the room.
'Well, that is not good enough. You tell your friend that she will need to come and see me as soon as you see her.' He snapped, trying his best to play the serious Professor role for once.
As Professor Slughorn started the lesson, I knew I wasn't going to be able to retain any information without (Y/N) being here. I knew it was my fault. I knew that if I wasn't what I was things would be normal. I felt my heart rate accelerate again and instantly shut my eyes.
'Remus, my dear boy. You look awfully pale. Why don't you go and get some air?' Professor Slughorn said. The sound of his voice seemed to calm me down again and I leapt off my chair and bounded over to the door without a word.
To my relief, the corridors were empty so I ran as fast as I could. Not knowing where I would end up. My breaths grew heavier and my heart pounded with every step I took. The full moon was close and I could feel it in every inch of my body. I needed to get away from everyone. I needed to stop thinking about (Y/N). I needed everything to just stop.
Your POV
You picked up another pebble from the floor and tried your best to skim it across the lake, but once again, it simply plopped in and disappeared into the depths of the water. Giving up on your attempt at skimming any more pebbles, you sat down in the long grass and picked several long strands of grass beside you.
Time seemed to be passing at an alarmingly slow rate and you were beginning to regret not going to Potions class. You'd thought that not seeing Remus would make you feel better, but it was actually making you feel worse. He hadn't done anything wrong- It was his friends that were trying to keep you away from him.
Suddenly, you were interrupted from your thoughts by a rustling sound behind you. As soon as you turned around, Remus caught your eye and you watched him walk down to the waters edge a bit further down the lake. He hadn't seen you and you could see from the look on his face he wasn't happy.
As you watched him, you desperately wanted to call him over so you could see him. Especially now that his friends weren't with him, but there was something about the look on his face that stopped you. That one look changed his whole demeanour and appearance. It unsettled you.
'Remus!' You promptly lowered yourself into the grass at the sound of a second voice. You watched as Remus turned around and Severus Snape stormed towards him. Severus was a Slytherin in your year. You'd never really spoken to him before, but you knew that he was a loner and didn't have any friends. In many ways, you were quite similar. But whilst you had managed to get through school without anybody really knowing you, Severus attracted a lot of unwanted attention. Usually being the prime target for bullying.
'Get away from me now.' Remus snapped as Severus stood directly in front of him. As they got into conversation, their voices became incoherent but you knew they were arguing. The unnerving look on Remus's face grew and Severus suddenly took a step back, a look of utter fear on his face as he stared at Remus.
'I know you and your friends are hiding something!' Severus shouted. Suddenly, Remus pulled his wand from his cloak, jabbed it into Severus's chest and sent him flying back. Severus hit the floor with a thud and began spluttering uncontrollably as Remus stepped over him and walked off.
You looked on in horror. Unsure of what to think or do. But one thing was clear to you right now- Remus Lupin wasn't what he seemed at all.
