Your POV

You wandered back into the common room and sat over in your usual spot in the corner. A group of girls were sat giggling on the sofa by the fire, but you didn't take any notice of them and they didn't take any notice of you.

You took a deep breath and rested your head on the back of the chair. Once again you thought about Remus and if you would ever get the chance to really speak to him. He had so much more going on in his life in comparison to yours. You were beginning to think that you would never get the chance.

'(Y/N).' You snapped out of your daydream about Remus and looked up to see Lily rushing over to you 'How are you?'

'I'm okay.' You replied, not in the mood to engage in a full blown conversation. Lily looked silently at your for a few moments and you could sense that she knew you were in a somewhat bad mood.

'How did studying go?' She said. You shrugged and sat up in your chair.

'Boring as usual' You mumbled. Lily smirked at you and for some reason it made you nervous.

'That's not what I heard.' She said. You tried your best not to look surprised at her comment. Instead, you shrugged and fell carelessly back into the chair.

'What did you hear then?' I said, my tone coming out harsher than I wanted to.

'You saw Remus.' She said 'He said you came over to him in the library after I'd left.'

'I just went to say hello. After all, he's one of the only people that actually speaks to me.' I said.

'He's like that. He's one of the kindest people I've ever met.' Lily said. And then it suddenly dawned on you, he probably didn't like you at all. He probably just felt sorry for you. He knew Lily and you knew that Lily and him spoke about you often. Lily had probably asked him to speak to you and make an effort.

'Did you ask him to speak to him?' You said. Lily's mouth dropped and she quickly shook her head.

'No, No. I was just saying that he's a nice person, that's all.' Lily said 'I wouldn't do that to you. I just want us to all be friends that's all. You deserve friendship here.'

You smiled affectionately at Lily 'Thanks.'

'You don't have to say thank you.' She said. You smiled and for the first time since being here, felt genuinely happy. You could see that Lily genuinely cared about your friendship and it made being here so much better. Despite everything you'd been through.

'I know, but I'm not used to people talking to me, let alone being nice to me.' You said.

'Why have you never made friends here?' Lily asked. You instantly felt your body tense up at her question.

'It doesn't matter' You snapped defensively.

'Okay, well you don't have to tell me. But I'm here for you if you want to talk about it ever.' Lily said.

'I don't.' I said. Lily smiled slightly and nodded.

'That's okay. What did you have planned for the rest of the day?' Lily asked. You shrugged and Lily smiled.

'Why don't we do something? Let's just go and sit by the lake. Come on, it's a lovely day.' Lily said. You took a deep breath and smiled at her.

'Okay fine. I'll come.' You said. Lily cheered and jumped up from her chair. You chuckled and followed Lily as she made her way out of the common room.

Remus's POV

I lazily tugged on a piece of grass beside me as I rested under a tree by the lake. James and Sirius were skimming stones into the lake ahead of me and the sun was shining down on us. The atmosphere brought a sense of calm over me that I hadn't felt in a while.

'Hey Sirius... Sirius, look who it is.' I heard James say excitedly to Sirius. The two of them turned around and I followed their gaze. I instantly knew what they were looking at as I saw Lily and (Y/N) walking over to them.

'Hey girls!' Sirius said as they walked over to them. I watched as Lily and (Y/N) smiled at Sirius, and he quickly turned his attention to (Y/N). I felt my muscles tense as I watched Sirius talk to (Y/N). I then quickly got up and made my way over to them.

'Hey Sirius, want to see who can skim a stone the longest?' I said, playfully elbowing him. He stumbled slightly and shot me a unamused look.

'No, not now Remus' Sirius said through gritted teeth. I smiled slightly at him, before I looked over to (Y/N).

'Hi' I said. (Y/N) smiled at me and I felt a fuzzy feeling in the pit of my stomach as I looked at her.

'Hey' She said 'I didn't think you'd be down here.'

'Yeah, well it's a nice day. So I thought I'd come and sit down here.' I explained. She smiled again and nodded.

'Yeah, It's a pretty nice day' She said. I could feel Sirius lingering by the side of me as I spoke and I didn't have to turn around to know that he was angry with me right now.

'(Y/N), would you like to go for that walk with me now?' Sirius asked. (Y/N) looked over to Sirius and then back at me. I smiled at her slightly, and she looked back over to Sirius.

'No thank you. I think I'll stay here' She said. I couldn't help but smile at her as she looked back over to me. Her smile grew wider and the feeling in my stomach expanded to every inch of my body as she looked at me.
