"Caddie." Janis whispered, shaking her girlfriend. "Caddie, wake up."
Cady is usually a deep sleeper, but it's like an instinct for her to wake up at Janis's voice. "Yes, baby?"
"It's really early."
"Yes?"
"And I decided something."
"Janis, what is it?"
"I'm going to get a haircut tomorrow."
Cady bolts upright, staring at her girlfriend. "What?"
"I need a haircut."
"No, no you don't!" Her voice sounds panicked. Cady loves Janis's hair and would literally cry if she cut it.
"Oh come on, Caddie." Janis reached over her and turned on their lamp. "The half that I shaved is so long now, and it looks uneven. I can't style without looking like a dumbass and I don't want to shave it again and again."
Cady stared at her hair. She was right, the side that is usually shaved is now shoulder length and black, because it isn't dyed. "What are you going to do?"
"You'll see tomorrow." Janis whispered. "You can't come, it'll be a surprise."
"Okay." Cady said, yawning. "Can I sleep now?"
"Yes, baby." Janis kissed her on the forehead and turned off the light. "Goodnight, I love you."
"Love you too."
The next morning, Janis left the house around lunchtime. "I'll be back in like, two hours, okay?"
Cady stared at her girlfriend, unsure of what to expect when she returned. She knew she would look good in anything, but she prayed she wasn't going to shave her whole head. "Okay. I love you so much, do what's right for you."
Janis kissed her quickly, and smiled. "I will. I love you!"
When she arrived at the hairdressers, Janis explained what she was after and the lady cutting her hair got to work.
It took around an hour and a half for the full look to be complete. Her hair had grown quite unhealthy after cutting it and dying it herself for so many years, so it felt especially good to treat herself for once.
Arriving home shortly afterwards, Janis unlocked the door to her apartment that she shared with Cady. "Caddie, I'm home!" She called out, and heard the TV was on.
As she walked towards the living room, she heard the TV go quiet and Cady stepped out of the room.
And her jaw dropped.
Janis looked different, incredible and beautiful. Her hair was now jet black, like the night sky and it was shoulder length. It was curled too, not too much and not too little. She looked young, mature, fierce...
"Wow." She looked wow. Cady couldn't breathe, right in front of her was a goddess. That goddess was literally her girlfriend. "How am I that lucky?"
"Do you like?" Janis asked, tugging at one of the curls. She knew she liked it but she tended to overthink anything and everything.
"Stop, don't touch it, the curl will fall!" Cady said quickly, moving her hand away to admire it some more. It was just hair, but Cady always had a fondness for it. It was such a big part of Janis too, something that really defined her.
"Caddie, that's literally my natural curl. I had no clue!" Janis smiled, sneaking a glance off herself in Cady's eyes. She really liked it, and she never liked how she looked.
"My god. You're perfect." Cady beamed. It was hair, for goodness sake. But this was something new and special for her girlfriend, and she knew she had to hype her up. "You look so beautiful! And amazing! And gorgeous! And I will say it, you look sexy and hot, I literally just want to-"
Before she could finish, Janis read her mind and crashed her lips into her girlfriends. She enjoyed the compliments, but sometimes Cady smiling was enough for Janis to feel beautiful.
It was a strong kiss, steamy and passionate and the two girls were smiling the whole time. As they pulled apart, they continued to grin at each other, silly smiles that made the other smile harder, which then repeated itself multiple times.
"Thank you." Janis whispered, kissing Cady's head. "You don't understand how good you make me feel. I love you."
Cady gave her a soft smile, stealing one more kiss. "It's my job, trust me. Just wait until Damian sees you!"
Janis was too happy in that moment, and she picked up Cady and brought her to the couch. "Now let's cuddle and watch movies."
"Deal." And Cady snuggled into Janis's body and took a deep breath. The scent of cookies came from her hair, and she looked up to appreciate her gorgeous girlfriend's hair a bit more. "I need to find that conditioner, it smells incredible!"
Janis laughed and hugged her tighter. "I promise to buy you some next time."
"I love you, Janis."
"And I love you, Cady."
