note: this is meant to be really short. it was just a little scenario i came up with and thought it would stay better with just the one scene and not like a short story if that makes sense? anyways, enjoy!

It was Cady's birthday tomorrow, and Janis was only just now buying her a gift. She was arriving at the jewellery store when she noticed the lights were beginning to turn off.

Janis practically threw herself out of the car before rushing over to the front entrance. She banged on the door, desperate to get inside. "Hey!" She called. "I'll be quick! Please let me in!"

The lady inside whipped around and gasped. She rushed over to the door and let Janis in. "Ma'am, we're about to close! But it must be freezing out there!"

Janis visibly shook, and nodded. "Yes, it is. But I need to get these earrings, real quick." She looked around. "I have no clue what I'm doing here, but they're little lion heads. Can you help me?"

The lady smiled. "Yes, of course. I will have to rush you, but we will get it sorted."

"Thank you..."

"Margot." The lady smiled.

"Thank you Margot. You're a life saver." Janis sighed and smiled.

Margot slipped behind the desk before pulling out the golden lion head earrings. They were beautiful, and Janis didn't even like jewellery at all. "They're perfect!"

"They are quite pretty." Margot replied, wrapping the box up and placing it in front of Janis as she payed. "Who's this for? A mother, sibling, best friend?"

Janis whipped her head up. "My girlfriend, actually."

Margot gasped and the colour in her face drained. "O-oh, you're..."

"Gay?" Janis snapped. "Yes, yes I am."

Margot didn't reply, just took the money and paused.

"Um, excuse me?" Janis coughed. "Look, I don't care if you're fucking homophobic or whatever, because I'm a real person, as is my girlfriend, and I would much like it if you would so very kindly let me take the earrings so she can have an enjoyable birthday. Sound good? Because it does to me." She shook her head. People were horrible, even when they didn't talk.

Margot simply nodded her head and shakily handed her the earrings, once again not speaking.

"Thank you." Janis spat out, disgusted with the behaviour she had just seen. She grabbed the box and stormed out the store and looked up at the stars. At least she knew Cady would love them, and that was enough for her to smile again.
