Hair Is Overated

As she folded a strand of orange hair over another, Janis huffed in frustration. "Caddie, I love you. But I hate this."

Cady was on the floor, painting her nails. "I know, but I can't do it right now, Jai. Please," she whined. "keep doing it for me?"

Janis was watching a tutorial on how to braid hair, because Cady had a baby shower to attend and couldn't do it herself. She was far behind schedule and she nails weren't drying fast enough.

As Janis attempted to wrap another piece of hair over, she sighed again. "Hair is overated. You looked gorgeous with it out, you know."

Cady smiled, even if Janis couldn't see. Her girlfriend always knew when to make her feel good about herself.

"But seriously, this is so difficult. I will do anything for you, babe, but never this again. Do you see why I have my hair shaved on one side now?" Janis complained. She really couldn't understand the fuss about hair, as hers was so ratchet she didn't care anymore.

"It's important to me!" Cady whined back. "My cousin asked for everyone to have braids at the party because it's a girl."

As she blows at her nails, her phone vibrates. It's a call from her cousin, Elle.

"Hi Elle!" Cady spoke into the phone, Janis still tugging at her hair.

Janis can't hear what Elle is saying on the other side of the phone, but at the sudden drop of Cady's shoulders she knows it's not good.

"Oh, oh okay. I'm so sorry. Let me know when you have another date. Alright, love you too Elle. Bye."

An almost completed, but horribly wrong, braid lat in Janis's hand and she attempted to tie a hair tie around the bottom. "What was that about?" She asked.

She can hear her girlfriend is clearly upset. "Elle had to cancel the shower today, so I don't need go get ready now." Cady sighed, pulling at her hair that isn't already braided.

As Janis finished the tie, she hops off the bed to sit next to Cady. "Aw, babe, I'm sorry. You were so excited for this!"

Cady rested her head on Janis's shoulder and sighed. "I know. But thank you for attempting to braid my hair. It's actually pretty good!" She looked at herself in the mirror and admired her girlfriends work.

"Thank you, babe." Janis gave Cady a quick kiss on this cheek, ready to stand up when she is pulled back down.

"Can I braid your hair?" Cady's eyes lit up. Janis doesn't braid her hair because it's not really a style you do when half of its shaved.

But as she stared into Cady's eyes, excited and ready to braid, she knew she couldn't say no.

And that's how Janis ended up watching Netflix on the floor, with her girlfriend braiding her hair into some wild designs. She hated to admit it, but the feeling of her hair being played with was super satisfying.

"Do this more often." Janis asked, before falling asleep in Cady's arms.
