That Was More Depressing Than Me

As the two girls dressed in black got into the car, it was silence at first. Until there was a soft sniffle, then a flood of tears.

"Janis?" Cady asked, alarmed at the sudden outpour. She was driving, so she had to sneak a quick glance at her crying girlfriend. "Are you okay?"

Janis grabbed some tissues and blew her nose. "That was more depressing than me!" She choked out, shaking slightly.

"Aw, Jay." Cady whispered sympathetically. Janis wasn't a crier, so she knew she had to be gentle and just let her rant. "Tell me what's on your mind. You'll feel better." She eased on, grabbing her hand.

Janis wipes at her tears. "Your grandpa was one of the few people in your family to accept me!" She whispered. "He was always so funny, and nice, and friendly, and nice, and-and..." and sob indicated she was done.

"Gosh, I know." Cady replied. "I'm going to miss him. But my grandpa had a good life! Even after my grandma passed on, he kept going. That's what I want us to be like."

Janis sniffled and clutched at her hand. "Caddie, if you die, I'm done for." She whispered, almost inaudible. "I don't want a life without you."

"Well, Jay," Cady spoke, now parking the car. She swivelled around in her chair to look at her crying mess of a girlfriend. "You'll just have to die first."

Janis attempted to smile but it was still hard. "I don't like talking about death." She said solemnly. "And I refuse to go to a funeral for a long time now, okay?"

"Alright, love." Cady replied, and looked at her phone. "It's only 4pm, want to go inside and snuggle and watch Disney?"

As she looked at Cady, she was certainly smiling now. "You always know how to make ,e feel better."

"Thats my job." She exclaimed, leaning over to plant a kiss on Janis's forehead. "Come on." She said, giving her hand one last squeeze. "Let's go."

"Ok."

As Cady got out of the car and walked over to Janis's side to let her out, she noticed that her girlfriend hadn't budged. "Come on, Jay."

"Caddie?"

"Yes?"

"I love you. Please don't die."

"I love you too. And I won't, not yet."

"Not ever?" Janis pleaded, looking up at her girlfriend.

"I'll try my hardest, just for you." Cady smiled.

"Thank you. Now let's go watch Frozen. I'm Elsa today." She giggled, running inside.

"I'm only Anna because of my hair!" Cady called out, locking the car and following her inside.
