"Ed?" Peter mumbled as he pushed open the door to his and his brothers room.
Edmund looked up from where he sat on his bed, his book in his hand. "Hey." He mumbled, smiling slightly at his brother.
"Cup of tea?" Peter asked with a smile as he walked over and sat opposite Edmund on the bed.
"Sounds great." Edmund said. "Thanks."
Peter nodded and set the cup on the bedside table. "And some biscuits." He added, placing them beside the cup.
Edmund chuckled slightly. "Thank you." He breathed.
Peter smiled before sighing. "How you feeling?" He asked gently, placing a hand on Edmund's knee.
Edmund stared at him for a moment before shrugging. "Alright I guess." He mumbled, placing his book down.
"Sure?" Peter said.
Edmund swallowed hard. "I'm just tired and cold." He sighed, looking down.
Peter bit his lip and stood from the bed, walking over to his and grabbing the blanket that was laying over the duvet.
He quickly returned to Edmund and sat beside him, wrapping the blanket around him before pulling him back and leaning against the headboard, Edmund leaning against him.
"Alright?" Peter asked as his arm wrapped around Edmund's waist.
Edmund nodded, resting his head on Peter's shoulder. "Yeah." He breathed, a light smile on his face. "Thanks."
"Here." Peter mumbled, reaching around and grabbing the cup, handing it carefully to Edmund.
Edmund smiled in thanks, taking a sip before sighing.
"You okay?" Peter said sadly, reaching up and running his hand through Edmund's hair.
"I'm used to it." Edmund mumbled. "It's alright"
"It's not alright." Peter muttered.
"Well it's gonna have to be alright." Edmund said.
Peter shook his head. "Ed." He mumbled, but decided to drop the conversation. "You feeling any warmer?" He asked atter a while of silence.
Edmund nodded. "A little." He mumbled. "Still cold though, but I'm always cold this time of year."
Peter sighed, continuing to play with his brothers hair. "I wish you didn't have to suffer through every winter." He choked, tears in his eyes.
Edmund sighed, taking another sip of the tea before leaning over and placing it back on the table. With another sigh he rested his head against Peter's chest, wrapping his arm tightly around his waist.
Peter hugged him back, maybe a little too tightly, but Edmund didn't mind.
"Yeah." Edmund sighed. "Me too." He paused for a moment. "Do you think I'll ever get over this? My fear of winter?"
Peter swallowed hard. "Maybe one day." He mumbled, placing a kiss to the top of his brothers head.
"Hmm. Maybe." Edmund choked, burying his face against Peter's chest and taking a deep breath.
"Memories?" Peter asked.
Edmund nodded but said nothing, taking a deep, shaky breath, his hand clamping around Peter's shirt.
"You're safe here Edmund." Peter whispered. "She's dead."
"What if she comes back?" Edmund choked, voice muffled against Peter's chest.
Peter sighed sadly. "She wont Ed." He mumbled. "And we're in England anyway."
Edmund didn't say anything to that, and Peter's heart broke when a sob escaped his brother.
"Hey." He soothed gently. "It's okay."
Edmund shook his head. "It's not." He whispered, voice tight. "I want it to be, but it's not."
Peter sighed, his heart breaking at the fact that one memory of his time with Jadis could change Edmund's entire mood. "It will be." He mumbled, burying his face against Edmund's hair.
Edmund let out another sob, shaking his head back and forth. "No." He sobbed. "No, no, no."
"Hey." Peter whispered again. "Shh." He ran his hand repeatedly through Edmund's hair as his brother cried, hoping to calm him down a little. "I've got you. You're safe."
Edmund let out a rather harsh sob after this. "I love you Peter." He choked between gasps. "You're always there for me."
Peter smiled sadly, his eyes filling with tears. "Always Ed." He whispered. "I always have been and I always will be."
Edmund let out another sob, but he was smiling, if only slightly.
Peter held him tightly until he eventually cried himself out, collapsing against his older brother with a sigh.
His eyes were half closed and it looked like he'd fall asleep any minute.
Peter resumed stroking his hair, whispering softly in his ear.
Edmund's breath hitched a few times, but he was easily calmed by Peter's whispers, causing Peter to smile a little.
"Love you Eddy." He whispered.
Edmund smiled a little. "Love you too." He mumbled, his voice quiet and almost dreamy.
Peter swallowed hard. "Why don't you go to sleep?" He suggested.
"It's - still early." Edmund whispered, but he was forcing his eyes to stay open.
He was absolutely exhausted, so much infact that he didn't want to even move.
"That doesn't matter." Peter sighed. "If you're tired you sleep."
Edmund hesitated but nodded, allowing his eyes to finaly slip shut.
Peter tightened his grip around his shoulders and patiently waited for him to fall asleep, which didn't take long at all.
He soon heard heavy breathing coming from his brother, causing Peter to place a kiss to the top of his head.
He lay there for hours, not moving a muscle.
He didn't move when he heard Lucy coming up for bed, their Mum quietly telling her not to go into the boy's room and disturb them. He didn't move when Susan came up to bed, and he didn't even move when he heard their Mum walking up the stairs.
But at maybe two o'clock in the morning he felt his eyes slowly begin to droop.
Gently, he placed a kiss to his brothers forehead. "Love you Eddy." He whispered softly, a small smile on his face. "I'm glad you're alive."
And with that, he pulled Edmund even closer, tightening his grip around his shoulders and settled down to sleep.
He couldn't help but chuckle a little when Edmund muttered something in his sleep before burying his face against Peter's neck, letting out a long sigh as he did.
Wrapping both arms around his brother, Peter rolled onto his side, holding Edmund firmly but still gently against his chest.
"I really do love you." He whispered as his eyes slid shut. "I really do."- The End -
