The brightest castles in the land were found in the towering trees of the Enchanted forest. A place the people of Vaehandre came to call Milantra. Here the White Fairies dwelt for more than a millennia. Houses and towers were built amongst the trees. Each structure gleamed a bright glow; everything was as white as pearls. Flowers that looked like sparks of embers were present in the greenery that grew all around them. The crystal-like windows showcased the luminescent rooms where the White Fairies were housed. Its floors were marble with many starlike patters.

The youngest among them were two sisters, Ahlgéta and Lôra. Their father was Overseer of the White Fairies. A person allowed to look upon the Relvenous mirror every century, a guardian of sorts; the watcher of the skies lest another star fall. The mirror could see all there is, all that was and all that could be.

One day the sisters grew curious. Ahlgéta lead them to the mirror.

"Ahlgéta, we shouldn't do this. Father might send us to ward off trolls again," pleaded Lôra, the youngest.

"Then we'll do that. Trolls are dumb anyway," assured Ahlgéta.

They stood in front of it. Ahlgéta said at once, "Where is our father?"

The mirror morphed its image to reveal Emöry on a spiral staircase. He was talking to a shorter fairy.

"He's busy, quickly now ask your question," Ahlgéta said to Lôra at once.

"Will I be Overseer one day?" Lôra said optimistically.

Muddling its form, the mirror showed an older Lôra standing in front of the Relvenous mirror.

The two giggled.

"You looked stretched. I told you you would be worthy," said Ahlgéta. "My turn, who's going to be the one ... who steals my sister's heart?"

"Ahlgéta no! I wanted it to be a surprise."

Again the mirror morphed. This time what emerged in place of its reflective surface was a corridor with two people in it. The likes of man and her. Their arms were outstretched between them, looking at each other intently. The boy's golden curls covered a portion of his face. Shortly after the augury was shown, the imagery was enveloped by black smoke.

"Has it done this before, sister?" questioned Lôra nervously.

The sisters took a step back.

"I don't think so," answered Ahlgéta.

"What is the meaning of this!" bellowed their father from behind them.

The pair turned around in a start.
