Chapter 2: The Service of a Healer

Following closely behind Henry, Kyle felt a shiver down his neck. He had gone deaf for a second and found himself in a strange land. Kyle looked around, astonished. They were in a different forest; the trees were taller and greener. Everything emitted a brighter shade, almost like a sparkle. Henry was staring at Kyle as he looked around.

"What is it?" Kyle asked.

"You were able to pass through. That confirms my theory." Intrigued, Henry rubbed his chin.

"Wasn't I supposed to?"

"Only people, different kind of people can pass through and come here. Which means you're not exactly human, or not entirely human," explained Henry.

Kyle gave him a puzzled look.

"And that mark in your arm—it means something here. I wasn't sure at first, but now I am," Henry said reverently.

"What–what does it mean?" implored Kyle while looking at the mark.

"You're an Elite Knight."

"Knight, you mean like medieval knights and all that?"

"You can say that," replied Henry.

"Come, I'll bring you to a healer I know," he added while walking away.

"Wait!" cried out Kyle but Henry led on. Curiously, Kyle asked, "So how are you different by the way?"

"What?" Henry blurted out.

"A while back, you said you didn't burn up because you were different, So you're not a vampire? – I can't believe I'm saying that out loud," he continued.

"I'm a hybrid – part vampire, part werewolf," replied Henry.

Kyle laughed. "You must be joking!"

"It's true."

"Say I believed you. How does that even happen? How does one become a hybrid?"

"I was born a werewolf; I got bitten by a vampire during a fight."

"Huh, interesting," said Kyle with a sarcastic tone.

"Sure, but I nearly died after that. You see, a vampire bite to a werewolf is deadly, so is a bite of a werewolf to a vampire but only in beast form, so a local sorcerer had to heal me and whatever he did made me a hybrid." Henry recounted, rubbing a pendant with a paw print etched on its surface.

"That sounds ... possible — I guess," responded Kyle, who was still admiring the lush forest.

"You're a curious case yourself, an Elite Knight in the Mundane world. How on earth did you end up there?"
