Alex's POV
I woke up to laughter and shouting of little kids downstairs. Wait…that was odd. I sat up stretched. When I opened my eyes I saw a group of, what looked like, twelve year old girls staring at me. When I looked over at them confused they giggled.
“She likes you!” One blurted out pointed at another.
“No I don’t!” The other screeched and looked back at me.
I rolled my eyes and got out of Jess’s bed, “Who are you guys anyway?”
“I’m Dustin’s cousin, so is my sister…and these are out two friends” One of the Pre-teens said pointing at each individual girl. I nodded not really paying attention to what she said. I pretty much figured they were over for Christmas anyway. I walked over to my duffle bag and pulled out a red shirt and black skinny jeans.
“If you girls don’t mind I would like to get changed…” I said annoyed as there eyes followed me across the room.
“Oh we don’t mind.” One of them giggled.
“Forget it! I’m going to go change in the bathroom. You guys can…I don’t know…fight over my clothes or what ever.” I said sarcastically while walking out of the room.
After getting changed I walked back into the room to make sure the girls were gone. After that, I walked downstairs to see the small apartment house seem even smaller with all of the people. Well, I guess what is what real families do. Gather all together in packs on Christmas while the adults eat and the kids fight over toys.
I scanned the room and couldn’t find Jesse. I shrugged, knowing he was somewhere in the house. As I looked around I noticed quite a few eyes on me. Some people wore smiles, others emotionless, then a couple were looking at me like some kind of bug. I cautiously made my way to the surprisingly empty couch. When I sat down a women sat down next to me.
“So you must be Alex.” she said
“yeah…wait, how do you know?”
“My sister told me about you. You are dating her son, aren’t you? You seem a bit too old.”
“Yes I am dating Jesse…and I’m only seventeen…”
She shook her head and headed to the kitchen. Does everyone here know I’m dating Jess? Maybe that’s why they were all staring at me…Although It was obvious I didn’t belong here, I didn’t feel welcome here either. To get away from the pressure of every ones eyes on me and the quite whispers of them talking about me I slowly got up and walked outside.
I walked down the side walk until I was out of site from the apartment. I jumped as my phone went off in my pocket. I looked at the name in shock as the letters on the screen spelled out ‘mom’ I flipped the phone open.
“h-hello?” I said in a stuttered voice.
“Hello Alex, I was thinking since it is Christmas I would let you come over…” my mothers voice sounded emotionless
“I guess I could come over…as long as you don’t try to start anything.
“I swear I have changed, Alex!”
“Okay, I’ll be there in a few.
I walked up the door of my house and knocked. I was greeted by my mom who gave me a hug.
