Brad took my hand as we walked up the stairs and towards Jessie's room where we found her hugging the teddy we got her, while watching some American TV show.

'Hi baby girl, how did you sleep?' Brad said as we entered the room. She shot up and patted the bed beside her for us to sit.
'Im not a baby' is all she said. I couldn't help but chuckle
'Okay okay, princess. Is that better?' Brad replied through the laughters he was trying to hold in.

I look to her. So beautiful so precious. 'Natty told me you want to talk about your mummy and daddy' I try to remain composed while speaking
'Where are they aunty Maddie?'
.
Here we go. Nat told me to tell her the truth but how could I tell her this when she will get so hurt. She continues to look at me with pleading eyes. Here goes nothing.

'Mummy is living in a place called Australia and daddy he is with nanny'
'Why did they leave me?' I could see she was hurting and it broke my hurt, Brad went to speak but I stopped him. I knew what I needed to say.

'Jessie. Darling. Sometimes adults have some problems and they get upset. Just like you do sometimes when you can't have your favourite ice cream for dinner. Well adults get upset with each other and sometimes they can't be happy together. Just like how you are with clowns, you don't like them and they make you sad so you can't see them because you get too upset. Well your mummy and daddy is like you and clowns. They are upset and they can't see each other, so they had to go away to make themselves happy again. Do you understand?'

She thought for a moment, before smiling. But it soon faded as she spoke again. 'Will they ever come back?'
I took a deep breath, looking to Brad as he nodded for me to speak. Taking my hand in his. 'Jessie.... They can't come back until they are happy. And we don't know when that will happen. They may not come back'
.
A few tears ran down her face and I quickly pulled her into a hug, kissing her head as I comforted her. All I could hear was her muffled speak 'do they not love me? Why did they leave me?'
I pulled away and kneeled in front of her, I slowly wiped her tears away. 'Jessie they love you so much. But they can't look after you when they are sad. So they needed to go. They are very silly for leaving you, but it wasn't your fault so don't ever think that and don't ever think they didn't love you, they were just very silly'

'But Natty looked after me even though she was sad?'
'Do you know why?'
She shook her head and I leant closer to her to whisper
'Because Natty is..... Magic. She can love you and care for you even when she is sad. How cool is that?'
'I love Natty and Tris. And I love you and uncle Brad. And uncle Con, uncle James, aunty Abby and Lena... Is she my aunty to?'

I chuckled as did Brad. ' we all love you to loads! Don't forget that. We are family and we will protect and love you. And Lena is your aunty to, if that's what you want?'
'Yeah... She's so cool. And pretty like a princess'
'I know, maybe she is a secret one. should we try and find out?'
'Yeah. I think she is. And you and Abby and Natty. You all are.'
'That makes you a princess to Jessie'

'Yay..... Aunty Maddie can I sleep with you and uncle Brad and can we watch frozen'
I looked to Brad and although he was smiling, I could tell he also wanted private time with me before driving for 18 hours. Oh well.
'Of course and we can sing all the songs'

'Yay. I'm going to find aunty Lena and ask her to plait my hair. Byeeee' she screamed full of excitement as she ran down stairs. We could hear her shouting for Lena.

I let out a sigh I didn't know I was holding in. And sat next to Brad on the bed. Putting my hands through my hair and resting them on my head as I leant over. That was hard. I felt Brad kissing my head before kneeling in front of me, lifting my head with his fingers under my chin. I looked in to his eyes.

'Your incredible! I love you so much. You was so good with her Mads. Like wow. I couldn't have done that.' He smiles before kissing me softly.
'Are you sure it was okay?'
'Madds, you handled it so well. I'm so proud of you'
'Come on, let's get her favourite ice cream and frozen so we are ready'

'Mads, thank you so much for speaking to her whatever you said she understands now. And she looks so happy'
'You welcome Nat' I hugged her tightly before me and Brad taking Jessie's hand and walking to our room.

Where she laid in between us, leaning on my chest and having cuddles for half the movie before moving her head to Brad's. She ended up sleeping with her head laid on Brad's chest, with her back pressed against my front. She pulled my arms so they were wrapped around her. We were all intertwined for the evening.

'I love you Brad'
'I love you Mads'
'We leave tomorrow'
'I know, I can't wait. Night Mads'
'Night'
