CHAPTER 8: It Wasn't A Nightmare
That was absolutely the worst nightmare ever. I stretched and quickly got out of bed. Today was Saturday, and that means no school! I ran downstairs so I could find my mom cooking up some bacon and eggs.
That was odd. When I reach the stairs, I'd already smell my mom's cooking from here. I ran to the kitchen. Mom wasn't there. The plates, the spoons, forks, and pans haven't been touched. They looked the same as they did yesterday.
Then this only means one thing. That nightmare wasn't a nightmare at all. It was real. I collapsed to the floor as soon as I remembered everything that happened yesterday.
My mom had cancer. And she was hiding it from me for almost a year. How could I not have noticed?
I asked her if it was true, she nodded and shockingly pulled her hair off. It wasn't real hair at all, it was a wig. She hid this really big secret from me all this time. She said she did it for my own good.
She said that if she told me, I woudn't let her continue working anymore. And we needed the money for our daily expenses. She was thinking about that. But how can she not tell me! I kicked the wall out of anger and that's when the door bell rang.
I was too pissed off to go and answer it so I just yelled COME IN! I heard the door open and close. I couldn't care less about who the hell that person who visited me was.
But I really hope it was... "Hey Allison." Katie called. "You okay?" Dylan asked. Just the two people I wanted to see. I wiped some tears and saw Greyson standing behind the two of them.
"Why are you here?" I snapped at Greyson, rudely.
I got up from the floor, wiped my tears away and gave the two, except Greyson, a hug. "We heard what happened, are you alright?" Greyson said worriedly.
"I can't take this, and how did you know?" I asked. "News goes around the school quite quickly, you know?" Katie answered. "Oh so everyone knows. Well I was planning to go to see how my mom is doing now." I said, "So you guys want to come?" They nodded and I smiled.
We arrived at the hospital. I led them both up to my mom's room. I knocked and got inside. That was weird. Mom isn't here.
Where'd she go? I walked up to the nearest nurse in sight. "Umm excuse me, but where is Amanda Knight, the girl in that room?" I asked pointing at mom's room. "Oh dear, she is currently in the emergency room." she answered, holding my shoulders. My face fell. "WHAAAAT!?" I yelled. Katie gave me a comforting hug but I pushed her away.
"WHERE IS THE EMERGENCY ROOM!!" I yelled at the nurse. "Over there, miss," she answered nicely, pointing to the other direction.
I ran to where she said my mom was at. Emergency Room. This is it. I peeked through the window, I could see my mom lying there with a bunch of doctors surrounding her. I completely collapsed in tears again. I just couldn't bear seeing her like that.
She has to be okay. She needs to get better. If she leaves me, I won't have any family watching over me anymore. I felt someone's hand reach for mine. I looked up, it was Greyson.
"It will all be okay, Ali. She'll get better. We just have to have hope." he said, still holding my hand. His words made me feel a tad bit better, but I still cried.
I hope he's right, I hope she will get better like he said. It feels weird holding his hand like this, but it felt like our hands fit together like a puzzle piece.
I pulled my hand away when I felt Dylan's and Katie's stares at us. That's right. I have Dylan. And he has Katie. Perfect, just perfect.
A doctor came out of the room. He looked at us."Which of you is Ms. Knight?" he asked. I raised my hand, "I am." "Hunny, we have good and bad news for you." he started.
I nodded my head, urging him to continue. "Well, the bad news is, we couldn't do anything about your mom's cancer. It's been there for so long. If only you two came for help before she got caught in such a severe case. So, we couldn't do anything about it. The good news is, we can tell you that she'll have about a week." he finished.
I collapsed to the ground, ONCE AGAIN. How can this happen to me? My mom is going to leave me. She only has a week. I, I need my mom. Mom, please don't leave me. I thought, as I shedded dozens of dozens of tears.
Greyson, Dylan and Katie tried to comfort me, but I pushed them away. This is the worst day ever. Why does life hate me? Indeed, life isn't a fairytale.
