CHAPTER 9: She's Gone

The next few days, I skipped school. I told the principal anyway that I was going to be watching over my mom until..... her time is up. Greyson also became a friend. He's been here for me ever since. He's not that bad after all.

"Knock, knock?" I said as I opened the door to my mom's room.

She still had that wonderful smile among her. How could she even smile at a time like this? Yep, she's a strong one. "Hey, hunny." she answered. "So how are you, mom?" I asked. "I'm okay. It's been quite a while since we've got a nice chat like this, dear." she said.

"Well, yeah. You've been busy with work and all, so...." I said. "Would you like to have a chat with me now?" she suggested, smiling. I nodded. "Of course."

We talked about all kinds of things. We talked about movies, politics, her life as a child, her dreams, and how she and dad met. This was the first time she ever tried talking to me about dad without bursting in tears.

Then she asked me about how my life was going. School, grades, P.E., friends and my uhh, lovelife. "How's you and your boyfriend, Dylan?" she asked. "We're fine." I answered. "Are there any others I should know of?" she asked.

I thought about it for a while, then a thought hit me. Greyson. I blushed. My mom noticed though.

"Who are you thinking about? Is it Dylan, dear?" she asked, staring at my reddened cheeks. I hesitated a bit then sighed. "I-I think I like another guy, mom. I-I think." I answered.

"Who?" "Greyson. I'm the worst girlfriend ever, mom. How can I think I like a guy when I already have Dylan?" I said. "It's not your fault, honey. You just have to choose between them. Who do you like most? It's important that you're happy." she answered.

"B-but, how do I choose?" I whispered, getting a tad bit embarassed. "Think of it this way, dear. If you really loved the first guy, then you would never have fallen for the second one." she answered. It was true. The only question is, who is that second one?

I thought about it for a really long time. "Well dear, is it okay if you fetch me a bottle of water?" she asked kindly. "O-oh sure mom. No problem."

I answered, running to the door. After about 8 minutes, I came back with a bottle of water. I knocked on the door and opened it. I saw my mom, wailing in pain. Those screams, I would never get them out of my head. I panicked.

"In case, anything happens dear, remeber that I'll always be with you. I-I love you.." she said, with her voice breaking. A tear fell from my eyes. W-what am I going to do? Should I call a nurse? A doctor? I ran out and saw a doctor. "PLEASE HELP MY MOM!!!!" I yelled.

He nodded his head and followed me back to her room.

It took a bit long while I waited outside the door of mom's room. Let her be okay, please. I need her. I-I love her. Just then, a doctor came out.

His head faced the floor, and he looked really disappointed. Is he going to say what I think he is? "Don't tell me..." I said, plugging my ears with my fingers. "She's gone, kid. I'm sorry." he said. A tear fell, then another, and another, and another.

I kicked the wall in anger. "SHE CAN'T LEAVE ME! SHE'S NOT GONE! YOU'RE WRONG! SHE'S ALIVE AND WELL! TELL ME," I yelled and whispered," s-she's okay." I collapsed to the ground.

Why does life hate me?! I remembered her last words. "I love you." I-I never even got a chance to tell her I love you too. What the hell is wrong with me?!

I never told her! Not once! She probably thinks I'm the worst daughter ever. I'm the worst. I really am. My phone rung. I don't care who it is. I didn't even check. I hung up and continued to weep. M-my mom. She's gone. Forever.

Katie's POV

"She hung up." I said, checking my phone. "Shit, I wonder what happened." Greyson said, "She's been skipping class for a week. You think her mom's okay?"

"I-I don't know. I sure hope she is." I answered. "Let's just visit her after school, okay?" "Alright."

There we were. On her front door. Waiting for her to open the door. "Should I ring the bell again?" I asked. "We're coming in, okay Ali!?" Greyson yelled at the door, and pushed it open.

What? She didn't even lock the door while she was home alone. She's totally messed up. We saw her there sitting on the couch, wrapped around a blanket, with really red eyes, her hair was just totally messy and there was ice cream smudged on her face.

We came in yet she didn't even move or greet us, her eyes were glued to the television.

"Ali?" I asked. She ignored. I lost my temper and I accidentally yelled, "ALLISON GRACE KNIGHT!" She finally looked at us, her current state was pitiful. She looked like she was about to cry again just when she saw us there. "I-I'm sorry." I said.

"It's okay," she told me and forced a smile. "What happened?" "M-mom is gone. Forever." Ali said. Our eyes widened when we heard this, she bursted into tears. We felt so sorry for her and we both gave her a warm hug.

I really wanted to say something that would make her feel better, but instead, I held her in my arms tightly.
