ISA'S POV
"This kid is foolish! He really thinks he has what it takes to become a Hunter?! At just Twelve years old?!"
The other man retorted not long after: "I don't know, his cousin caught a master of the swamp a few days ago. And his dad did too at his age. What if it's in his blood or something?"
Mom's eyes narrowed at the fishermen's words. If she were facing him, he probably would've given her a dirty look.
I ignored the two men's conversation and continued to scale the small fish I was holding. I smiled at mom.
"Don't worry, they don't know what they're talking about."
She glanced at me and smiled back. I finished flaking the fish and moved on to the next. I was just about to finish with this one when we heard rapid and energetic footsteps approaching.
I smirked. Nice, Gon.
"AUNT MITO! ISA! I DID IT!" My happy cousin yelled. We rested our knifes and turned around to see him running towards us. He stopped right in front of us with a victorious grin. "I caught a master of the swamp!" He exclaimed in delight.
The two fishermen from earlier seemed to have heard him because they stared at us intensely, a baffled expression apparent on their faces.
I smirked proudly. What do you think of Gon now, you idiots?
"Well they aren't called Freecss for nothin' that's for sure..." One of the men said.
Most people would see it as offensive but I didn't. Call us freaks or call us saints, as long as you remeber to call us.
I smiled at Gon. "That's awesome! Let's tell everyone!"
After convincing almost everyone on the port, we all rushed towards the lake and brought back the enormous fish Gon had caught.
"Man..." A guy complained on the way back. "My back still hurts from carrying Isa's master of the swamp a few days ago..."
Gon and I exchanged silent laughs.
"Aunt Mito!" Gon exclaimed, his chocolate brown eyes were shining with hope. "You promised us that when both Isa and I were able to catch a master of the swamp each, you'd allow us to take the Hunter exam!"
I quickly looked away, as if I wasn't paying attention. That's never gonna happen, Gon.
Truth is, I wanted to become a hunter just as badly as Gon. But I didn't want to be disappointed if mom denied.
I heard mom sigh. "Alright. We'll decide what happens at diner tonight. But now, help us scale this fish." She turned in my direction. "Alright Isa, you can stop pretending not to be eavesdropping and help us!"
My eyes widened. "Uh w-what? How did you..." Mom rolled her golden eyes playfully and handed me a knife. "I am your mother after all."
I smiled and took the knife.
_______________________
I couldn't believe my ears.
"Y-you're really letting us take the exam?!" I exclaimed, wide-eyed.
Mom sighed. "A promise is a promise. Even though I'm terrified of letting the two of you go, I trust you and believe you're going to be able to pass the exam."
"AAALRIGHT!!" Gon yelled jumping up from his seat. I slumped back in mine from the shock.
She's actually letting us go. This is actually happening.
