ISA'S POV

"KILLUA YOU JERK!!!" I yelled while bursting into laughter. "GET BACK HERE!!!" I took a long breath and dived into the ice cold lake water. I swam my way under him and pulled his leg like I would do to Gon every time we went swimming.

Killua shrieked in surprise before his whole body was submerged in the lake.

Even with the hot and humid weather, the lake was still ice cold. We didn't really mind though, since we would still play in it everyday, but that's something I never understood.

I held back a mischevious laugh, not wanting to breathe in any water.

We both swam back to the surface and gasped for air. Killua gave me a dirty look when I almost choked in laughter, but he had it coming

"That was a dirty trick!" He complained childishly.

I scoffed. "That's what you get for splashing me accross the face!"

Killua and I got along really well. We both had sarcastic views on the world and a dark humour. He never got offended by my jokes and neither did I by his.

Being with him was as easy as breathing. No filter needed, no need for flowery embellishments. It was refreshing, honestly.

The past few days had been amazing. We kidded and messed around all day everyday, except when we were working out or he was teaching me assassination techniques. But even then, we had a few laughs.

Getting to know Killua better had just proved me how much of an amazing guy he was.

Under his carefree, arrogant and borderline rude attitude, he was actually very affectionate, considerate and thoughtful.

But staying by his side also showed me just how unhappy he really was.

It wasn't really obvious but, if you observed him enough, you could tell.

The short and sour laughs he would give me during conversations whenever the topic was his family. His shifty eyes when I would ask him personal questions. The sadness of his face during split, dazed seconds or whenever I caught him spacing out.

Those signs weren't much, but they were enough to show me the drowning melancholy he kept deeply buried inside him.

But, this time, I think I knew why he couldn't be happy.

"Hey... Kill?" I asked once I was done changing.

His back was still facing me. "Yeah?"

I giggled. I really appreciated that he respected my privacy. That's something even mom had trouble doing...

"You can turn around, I'm done. " He did as told and looked at me, probably expecting a reason why I called his name.

"What are you gonna do after the exam?"

The question seemed to surprise him or give him a sentiment of déjà vu because his blue eyes widened and he smirked. He stayed quiet a moment.

"I don't know." He said honestly. "Why do you ask?"

I frowned. That just confirms it.

"Well, Gon and I planned on going back home for a little while before we started looking for his dad." I broke eye contact and looked down. "Would you... Maybe wanna come with us?" I asked shyly.

I'd be embarrassed if he refused. I really liked him.

Killua furrowed his eyebrows. "Don't you want to become a blacklist hunter?"
