ISA'S POV
"So," the Captain smiled at us. "Why do you want to become hunters?"
We were inside the captain's cabin, caught up in a raging storm and three fourth of the crew had passed out from sailing dizziness.
I stared attentively at the old man in front of us.
From the way the captain looks at us, it's obvious that he's testing us. I bet the exam has already started without us knowing.
Gon smiled at the old man. "My dad's a hunter. And I want to become one just like him so I can meet him someday!"
The captain smiled, seemingly happy with his response and glanced at me.
"I love criminology." I started.
I realized everyone was staring at me and felt uncomfortable. A blush crept to my freckled cheeks before I could stop it. "Everything about studying the mind of mentally unstable people fascinates me. So I want to become a blacklist hunter and capture criminals." I mumbled, looking down and fiddling with the end of my green sweater.
The blonde boy with sliver eyes from earlier gave me a respectful corner smile, which I returned shyly.
The old man chuckled at my answer. "Very good aspirations, kids"
The tall brunette in suit that I saw earlier and who was now standing beside me looked at Gon and I as if we were complete idiots.
"Why are you telling him?! He doesn't need to know!" He shifted his attention to the old man, whose had fallen into a frown.
"Whatever, pops!" He said, pointing at him. "I'm not telling you." He held on to a black mallet and looked away childishly. I gave hima sideways glare.
Jeez. Rude much.
'Pops' as he called him, narrowed his eyes.
"Neither am I." Said the blonde one next to Gon, calmer than the previous guy. He closed his silver eyes and started brooding about having dark secrets that he must keep deep into his own soul. I sweat dropped.
Great. Another dark and brooding emo. Why is the world filled with them nowadays?
The captain looked completely unimpressed at the two. "Alright" he started with a careless shrug. "I'll tell the exam commitee we have two more dropouts."
I held back a laugh as the dropouts gasped in surprise. Gon looked at me in confusion, which just made me snort. "What?! You can't do that!" The tall man objected.
"But I can." The elder retorted. "You know you have to take this boat for the exam. But what we haven't told you is that the exam has already started."
Everyone in the room gasped, all except the captain and I.
I smirked. Knew it!
"Aboard this ship, I decide who gets to stay and who has to leave. So I'll ask ya again." He said, this time, dead serious. "Why do you want to become hunters?"
The tall one grunted. Ooh... This one seems like a rager.
"Fine. The only reason I want to be a hunter..." He started enigmatically. "IS FOR THE MONEY OF COURSE!"
We all sweat dropped. He trailed off about how much money is great and how it can buy you anything and to be honest, I don't really know what he was saying: I stopped listening when I heard the word money.
"Really, Leorio?" The blonde one questioned, raising an eyebrow at him. "That's so pathetic."
Even though he's rude, I agree with him. What kind of person would put themselves through such a hard exam in which they could literally die... Just for MONEY??! If becoming rich is his only motivation, he's not gonna last long. The stakes are too high.
