Yeon Na's POV
"Jae Sang!" I tapped Jae Sang's shoulder calling for his attention. "Is everything alright? You have been really out of it today."
"Hmm? Oh sorry babe. Well... it's just that erm..." Jae Sang looked at me as though he was at a lost of words like he did not know what were the right words.
"Just that?" Hye Rin encouraged him to carry on and he looked at her then me before forcing a smile.
"Just that erm well my father's company is not doing really well so it's kind of affecting me I guess." Jae Sang answered before going back to his lunch. It seems as though what was bothering him was also bothering his appetite. I placed my hand over his under the table and he flinched at the action shocking me.
"Sorry..." he muttered before hesitantly grabbing my hand. What's actually going on with him?
***
"Jae Sang has been acting really odd recently. Ever since that day after he went to his father's workplace, he had been acting weirdly. I can't help wondering if his father's business was really affecting him or that there was something else?
Like an example of him acting weirdly was after class. He would normally wait for me by the door before we walked out of school together. Since he was grounded, we could only walk as far as the school gates but that day. He was not standing by the door. I could not find him anywhere and he did not reply to my texts. The next day I asked about it but he just said that his driver was rushing him. He brushed it off immediately and changed the topic.
He had also been less affectionate. He used to walk me to class with his arm around my shoulders but now, he keeps a small gap between us. Even now, he is no where to be seen and has been avoiding eating with us for lunch. I'm very worried about him that it is driving me crazy." I ranted to Hye Rin, resting my head on my hand sadly while my other hand played around with my food.
"Stop playing with your food." she nagged and I pouted taking a bite of my food. "But I agree with you. He has been acting weird. Have you also notice that he has came to school with swollen eyes and a hoarse voice a few times?"
"Exactly! That's what I mean. It looks like he cried the night before but he does not want to tell me what's going on. Maybe he is embarrassed?" I lifted my head, nodding vigorously at first before slumping back onto my hand.
"Well, if you desperately want to know... You should ask him about it like seriously. No beating around the bush. Flat out ask him to tell you what' wrong." Hye Rin advised and I heaved a sigh. She was right. If I wanted to know that badly, I should confront him. It seemed like he was trying to avoid me. We cannot just let the continue like it's normal.
"Hye Rin?" I called out making her look up at me. I had been too busy worrying about Jae Sang, I did not even realise how pale Hye Rin looked. "Are you alright? Why is your face so pale? DId you take your meds?"
She then smiled assuringly before nodding. "I did. I guess it has not take action yet. I'm fine."
"Do you what to go home?" I suggested but she immediately shook her head.
"It's not that bad as it seems."
"You should at least rest in the school infirmary." I got up grabbing my tray and hers to return. I could tell she too did not have much of an appetite. She reluctantly got up after me because she knew how persistent I can be.
We entered the infirmary after grabbing Hye Rin's bag and told the nurse that Hye Rin was not feeling well. We did not have to explain much as the nurse could tell how weak she was.
"Could you give me a call or inform me if anything happens to Hye Rin?" I requested.
"Sure thing. Don't worry too much." The school nurse smiled sweetly placing a hand on my shoulder.
"Nothing is going to happen okay and stop acting like my mum. It makes you seem old." Hye Rin chuckled weakly, making me more worried. "You should get back to class."
"I'll come check on you immediately when I'm released." I insisted holding her hand and she held my hand too with her eyes close as though she was drifting to sleep. I smiled before leaving, thanking the nurse.
***
Throughout the last period, I kept staring behind at Jae Sang. I had planned on talking to him before going to see Hye Rin but I did no know how to start the conversation. My stares obviously did not go unnoticed by Jae Sang. he had mouthed the words 'What is it' a few times but I just simply smiled shaking my head.
Then, the time I dreaded arrived, the end of class. I took a deep breath before slinging my bag over my shoulders. He could not disappear this easily this time. I headed straight to him and waited for him to finish packing his bag. He smiled nervously which rose my suspicions.
"We need to talk." I informed, trying my best to not make it sound bad. He looked up at me, frozen for a second before recovering and nodding. I gave him a small smile and placed my hand out for him to take when he was done packing. He stare at it hesitantly before accepting it. I lead him out of the class and to the same spot he brought me the time he questioned me about hiding things from him.
"Oh my god, what happened to your eyes?" I asked with concern, cupping his face to focus on them better. His jaw tensed under my touch. I grabbed my hands and removed them from his face brushing me off with, "It's nothing."
"Can you tell me what's really going on with you?" I demanded.
"What do you mean?" Is he serious?
"I am sure you know really well what I mean." I tried my best to control my anger and confusion and stayed patient.
"No, I don't. I told you already, things have been stressful because of my father's company having problems." He harshly replied which took me aback.
"Then, why have you been avoiding me? I have nothing to do with your father's business so why do you keep pushing me away? And you have never really been interested about your father so what's wrong?" I finally asked, puzzled.
"What do you mean by not interested about my father?" he interrupted, raisng his voice leaving me speechless. "He is still family and it's none of your f**king business." he cursed. I stumbled a step back by his sudden explosion of anger. He too looked a bit shocked by himself.
"It is my business! I care about you a lot. You're my boyfriend and I can tell that something is off. Can you just tell me what's really bothering you? I can tell that that's not the only reason and you can't lie to me Jae Sang." I begged trying to keep myself together. He sighed looked away and clenching his jaw. I grabbed his face to make him look at me before softly pleading, "Please... I'm just very worried. Remember you said friends can share things with each other? Please do not hide anything from me."
His stiff face also softened as he stared into my eyes. I was on the verge of tearing up.He then closed his eyes and furrowed his brows again as though he was resisting something. He grabbed my hands and removed them from my face and I watched his hands unexpectedly, a tear sneakily rolling down my cheeks.
"You really want me to tell you what's wrong?" he muttered and I nodded still with my head down.
"I want to break up."
A/N:
I found this chapter kind of short since I have been writing long chapters but the next chapter is going to be a long one which will help explain this chapter so get ready!!
I hope y'all don't mind a bit of cursing. I felt that cursing in this context is not taken badly but like it expresses the character's emotions a bit more. In this case, it's Jae Sang's feelings.
