Have you ever felt the excitement or happiness when you find a cute puppy in a pet store or an attractive piece of stationery that you've always wanted? But then your mom or dad doesn't let you get that? That is currently how I felt. My heart was telling me to walk over to him and talk to him but my brain was telling me to ignore him and get my candy apple and mind my own business. But how could I do that? I couldn't avert my eyes from his gaze.It was way too tough.
We used to be glued to each other. We were partners in crime and did all the mischiefs together. He was my soulmate and I was his. But then he left me just like everyone else. I still remember the good times we had.
One year ago
"Jay are you sure about this?"
"I'm totally sure about this Jen. You trust me don't you?"
Jay was the only one who called me Jen and other stupid nicknames and I let him because I also had some dumb nicknames for him.
"Yeah I trust you",I replied rolling my eyes.
He flashed me one of his award winning smiles and ruffled my hair.
"Hey you're spoiling my look dum-dum! It took me forty-five minutes to get it straightened!"
Today was thirty first of October. Jay's and mine favourite festival of the year as we could fool around as much as we could without being scolded. My whole family was dressed as vampires including me. Jay, Ava, me and one of jay's friend Chris who was a good friend of mine had decided to go to the Baite's mansion. It was an old and creepy looking abandoned house where no one went and we had heard some really spine chilling stories about that house when we were in middle school. Jay being Jay convinced us to explore the mansion with him and us being us got convinced. June didn't join us being the goody two shoes she is.Honestly I was terrified to the core. I mean what if vampires actually exist? Would the Baite's mansion vampire kill me or would he kidnap me to be his mate thinking I was a vampire?
I looked behind me to see Ava and Chris trailing behind us not too far away. Both of them looked extremely nervous.
I looked ahead to see the Bate's mansion clearing up in our view. Suddenly a cool breeze blew , the cold biting at my skin leaving a trail of goosebumps. I shivered visibly and stopped in my tracks. Jay also stopped walking, sensing my absence.
" What happened Jen?"
"I uh I..nothing...", I helplessly stammered.
He looked at me briefly then raised an eyebrow and smirked.
"What are you scared little Jen-Jen?", he mocked me.
"No Mr jerk face, I stopped to let Ava and Chris catch up with us.", I lied hiding it with my signature eye roll.
Jay bought my lie and that seemed to shut him up. We stood in silence until-
"Hey guys why'd ya both stop?", Chris asked us in his Southern accent scaring the living lights out of us, earning an ear splitting shriek from both Jay and me.
"Whoa whoa chill lovebirds! No need to act like a bunch of middle school girls!." Chris chuckled shamelessly.
"You didn't have to scream to scare the lives out of them you dumb head!", Ava smacked him.
"Enough now! Let's get going!", Jay deadpanned.
We walked in an ear splitting silence as we turned down the street
The Baite's mansion was more clear now. It looked like a haunted house straight out of a horror movie. A full moon resting on its tattered roof that didn't help in any way of brightening the atmosphere up. The leafless dead trees surrounded us in every direction casting gloomy shadows on the concrete pavement,as if telling us that there was no going back. This made the creepy mansion even more attractive as we advanced towards it. It was called 'Baite's Mansion" after all . It attracted us and made us curious, as if we were fishes and the mansion was our bait. Curiosity kills the cat? I better hope not.
"Guys are you super duper totally absolutely sure that we should still go in there? Because if my parents find out I died, they will kill me.", Ava rambled nervously. Ava comes from a strict Christian family, so her parents don't believe Halloween and all this 'hocus - pocus'. If they find out she died while going in a creepy mansion she shouldn't have gone to, they would actually bring her back to life from the graveyard and then kill her. Jeez!
"...yeah Ava. Jay's plan is genius...I'm pretty sure we would be safe in there.", Chris spoke up but his voice visibly wavered due to his nervousness.
"And may I ask how?"
"See, no one is ever gonna find out that we came here because no one knows or cares where we are now, 'cause it's Halloween! So we won't get into trouble.", Jay explained happily, proud of himself. Everyone seemed content with his answer until I spoke up.
"But what if something goes wrong and no one finds us Jay?", I whispered.
