After one funnel pie, two cotton candies, two cola flavoured slushies, three thrilling roller coaster rides, one creepy ghost train ride, one skydiver ride and three pendulum rides later the clock struck eleven forty-five. We stood in front of the legendary 'Dodgem'.

"Hey let's get in the queue. It's already too long.", I suggested and dragged Jay with me.

As we stood in the line, we made small talks, catching up on the last year.

"Jenny, I'm really sorry for blaming you again and-"

"Ugh, Jay, can you please stop apologising! I don't like all these formalities!", I groaned.

He chuckled softly," I know, but I still can't believe you forgave me so easily."

I shrugged my shoulders and smirked, "You did have a really convincing explanation."

He smiled, but it didn't really reach his eyes. He looked nervous for some reason.

"Are you alright Jay? You seem a bit nervous." I raised an eyebrow.

"Uh yeah! I've actually been wanting to ask you something.", he rubbed his neck awkwardly. "Uh do you..uh want to grabburgerswithmeonfriday?, he spoke at lightning speed.

"Come again? A bit slower this time."

He took a deep breath and spoke, "Are you free on Friday?"

"No I'm expensive."

"Jennifer please!"

"Alright! I am free."

"Great! Do you want to grab burgers with me?"

"Sure!", I smiled brightly at him.

As our turn came, I was surprised to see a bored looking Chris standing over there grabbing bills from people as they paid. We weren't that close as friends, but he had still acknowledged me last year. We handed our money to him and immediately his expression brightened up a bit and he gave us a wide, toothy smile.

"Hi guys! Finally some familiar faces in the land of zombies! What are you two doing here?", he asked us stupidly.

"Oh hey! We are actually here to sell shoes you know? Want a pair?", I quipped.

He frowned,"Really?"

"Oh shut up. Why aren't you enjoying the carnival?", Jay asked him.

"It's that woman, my mom. She decided to punish me for breaking her antique vase and decided that I was gonna help out at the carnival instead of enjoying it. She talked to that community service woman Mrs Blue. She is the incharge of Dodgem this year. And do you know what the worst part is? I won't be payed!", he cried out.

"I'm sorry pal. I know how it feels. She can get ugly.", I patted his shoulders

"And the vase broke by accident!  It was really ugly and gave me the creeps you know? It had this weird looking tribal mask sort of thing painted over it. So, one night I was going downstairs to get myself a drink of water. I switched the light on and BAM! The creepy vase came in my view. I freaked out and my ninja instincts took over. I did a flying kick and it landed on the mask's face. Well, obviously the vase shattered. And my mom decided to torture me with that Blue woman. God my mom! That woman can be really cold and sometimes I think-"

"FERNANDEZ! STOP CHATTING AND GET BACK TO WORK NOW!", hollered Mrs Blue. That lady is really strict and sophisticated. I pity Chris, I really do.

We gave Chris a sheepish look and handed him our money, then went towards the bumper cars. The place was lit up with bright and colourful lights that reflected on the floor giving the whole place an ornamental look. I made my way over to a red car and got in, strapped my seatbelt and waited for the ride to start. I saw Jay repeat my actions as he sat in a green car. He smirked at me in a way that's said' game's on!'

After a rather fun ride, I looked at watch to see that there were only ten minutes left to midnight. The crowd had thinned out a bit. Biting my lip nervously I turned towards Jay.

"Jay..I have to go-", he cut me off.

"To the Ferris wheel. I know Jenny. You should give them a chance. I promise they have a real reason.", he assured me.

I give him a tight lipped smile.

"I should go now. Bye Jay!", I gave a small kiss on the cheek.

"B- bye Jenny! S-see you-u on F-friday.", he blushed.

I stifled a laugh and walked towards the Ferris wheel that was now visible. I got closer and gasped at its sight. Even after all these years its magnificent beauty always took my breath away. The twinkling lights at the end of every capsule and its huge frame.  It was just beautiful. I looked around something caught my eye. I could make out Ava and June's head.

I walked closer towards the Ferris Wheel as slowly as I could without making myself suspicious, not wanting to confront my so called best friends. I wanted to meet them but at the same time I didn't. I saw them talking to the ride operator until June noticed me and gave me a wave, motioning for me to come over. I shot them a dubious glance.

Should I go or not?
