I pushed through the crowd and made my way towards the Wave Swinger. I could hear the constant thumping of my heart and it was probably audible to everyone around me. It had been a really long time since Jay and I had a decent conversation. He had tried to contact me in school and through phone in the start but I had ignored him. He deserved it after all he had done nothing but be mean to me that day.
The familiar flashing neon signs came into my view- 'Wave Swinger'
Before I could change my mind, I saw a familiar figure standing next to the ticket booth that rooted me to my spot. He was looking around as if searching for someone and continuously looking at his watch. I hadn't had the time to notice before, but he was clad in a grey sweater with black jeans and sneakers. His hair was tousled and he looked as cute as ever. I shook my head to get rid of these stupid thoughts and started making my way towards him and as soon as I met his eyes, I turned around and started walking away.
"Hey Jennifer, where are you going", he frowned catching me by wrist.
My eyes widened as they shot to his hand and he immediately dropped his hand and awkwardly cleared his throat. A moment of uncomfortable silence passed as we tried not to look at each other. The awkwardness around us being tangible, both of us waiting for someone to start a conversation. I decided to start it as for him, the awkward kid he is, would never start and we would probably stuck here for eternity.
"So, how did Mr Holland suddenly think of me?", I asked dryly, faking a look of disinterest. He looked slightly hurt for a second, but regained himself.
"Look, I know there's no point of saying this now, but I just...I just miss you a lot. I know what I did and said that day in school was totally unacceptable..but, I had lost my dad and seeing June look so sad all the time was unnerving. I never actually believed any rumour going on about you. I knew you would never make fun of my family or anyone, especially with such a dire situation going on. I guess I had bottled up my anger and frustration for too long and I just lashed out on you. I tried to reach out to you and explain but, I guess I was too late. You needed space from all of this riot going on."
I remained silent at his apology. A minute passed and Jay gave me a tight lipped smile, "It felt really good to finally let it all out." He nodded, "Thank you for giving me a chance, I'll forever be greatfull to-"
I cut his rambling off and pulled him into a big hug, "It's alright Jay. I forgive you. I should've also considered about how you felt and...- you know what let's just get this over with. I hate all this cliche-gooey-apologising."
He gave a small laugh and hugged me back tighter.
"Thank you so much Jenny. The guilt was eating me up on the inside for not explaining everything.", he sighed in relief.
I pulled away from the hug and smiled back at him.
"Should we go now?", he asked me pointing towards the ride.
This had been Jay's and my favourite ride. We used to eat a bag full of curly fries just before the ride and whoever puked first after the ride finished had to buy the other a funnel cake. Oh yeah the challenge!
"Hey! How could you forget about the challenge we used to do?", I faked an offended scoff.
"Oh right! Let's go to the French fries stall.", he grabbed my hand and dragged me away.

A girl with dyed pink hair came around, chewing obnoxiously on matching pink bubblegum and closing the silver metal latches securely on everyone's seat.
"So Jay." he looked at me, "Why'd you kiss me the other day? You didn't give me an explanation." He threw his head back and groaned loudly. "You still remember that?"
"Of course! It happened a week ago."
"Well, I was trying to get rid of Carly-?
I raised my eyebrows at him, "Carly? The cheerleader."
He nodded, "Yes the cheerleader Carly. She had been after me for weeks to be my girlfriend. I needed to get rid of her."
So that's why she glared at me all the time.
"Well, you looked like you enjoyed the kiss.", I smirked.
He smirked back at me,"What if I said I did."I stared at him with my mouth agape.
"Good evening riders! Hope you're having a great evening so far at 'The Golden Carnival". Please keep your hands and legs inside the ride at all times. Have a safe and fun ride!"
As soon as the lady at the intercom stopped speaking, our ride began. All the chairs went slowly around in circles first. Then the ride elevated and picked up speed. Eventually, all the chairs tilted and the ride rapidly started spinning in circles. I laughed in amusement as butterflies danced around in my stomach giving me the thrills. The wind whipped through my hair and my hands reflected the colourful neon lights of the strips of light placed on the roof of the ride. Weird and vivid looking pictures were painted onto the roof, giving it a creepy yet aesthetic look as it contrasted with the dark navy blue sky.
I felt the curly fries lurching around in my stomach. Maybe it was a bad idea to eat them.I looked over to my right to see a sickly green Jay next to me. He looked over to give me an unconvincing, weary smile. He was the one who had to always buy a funnel cake. Let's just say I have a stronger immune system than him.
When the ride came to its end, we slowly descended and the pink haired girl came around, unlatching everyone. As soon as Jay was free, he sprinted towards the bushes and puked in there. I laughed and patted his back, the sick feeling now gone from my stomach.
"I guess you're buying me a brown sugar and cinnamon funnel cake now."
