Meanwhile outside of Halo Tower, just after the security guards were beaten up by Mi'ko and her group, the guards were approached by a squad of LAPD officers led by Detective Mia Reyes.
'Tell me exactly what happened here,' Mia asked one of them.
'If we tell you, you're not gonna believe us,' the guard responded.
'Try me!' said Mia, raising her gun towards the guard's face.
Back inside the elevator, Darksun's sword began to glow, informing his senses that his target was still inside the building.
'Dubois is close. So, you guys better be prepared for anything he might throw at us.'
The elevator had reached the top floor, alleged to be Dubois' main office. The doors swung open and the first person they saw in the grand marble-esque office suite was Agent Cruz and behind him, the tall brute known as Boost. A third unfamiliar security personnel was next to them. She wore a dog tag with the name Jezebel boldly engraved.
The three bodyguards took on their respective opponents. Boost wanted revenge on Darksun after being humiliated by him earlier in the day, Agent Cruz decided to take on Wiccary, leaving Jezebel to take on Jake by herself.
Despite his training, Agent Cruz still couldn't land a single hit on Wiccary, since she had the tendency to dodge his moves by teleportation.
'I take that you're the bruja that Raymundo hired to track down the vigilante for us?' asked Agent Cruz.
The witch took a closer inspection of Cruz's neck and noticed a laser burn in a particular shape.
'And I'm guessing that you were the former Lobos thug Raymundo sent undercover to spy on Dubois, only to double cross the Lobos and join Dubois' insane crusade?'
'Only because he offered better protection and pay that would set me for life,' acknowledged Agent Cruz.
Just as he thought he had Wiccary cornered, he grabbed her by the waist and attempted to subdue her, only to be shocked that he was dealing with an illusional copy when she dissolved into smoke.
The real Wiccary emerged from the smoke behind him and she knocked him out with one walloping punch. She saw him fall onto the floor, unconscious.
'Well I hoped you reaped what you sowed,' Wiccary added insult to injury.
Jake was rapidly shooting at Jezebel with his EMP gun, but the woman was faster than she looked. She kept dodging the bullets like they were raindrops.
She dropped down to the floor and swept Jake off his feet with her strong legs. With Jake on the ground and his gun a few meters away from him, Jezebel pressed her boot on top of Jake's chest and aimed her own gun at his head.
'What a shame that you didn't put up much of a fight. It just makes cops like you look pathetic,' Jezebel told her captured prey. 'Just before I blow your brains out, do ya have any last words?'
Jake feared for his own life and closed his eyes. Jezebel fired three bullets. But what happened next was too fast for anyone to comprehend. Jake's vest began to glow, enveloping him inside a bluish energised protective bubble. One by one the bullets collided with the force field, clattering to the ground upon impact.
The bubble expanded, and with a new surge of energy, it expelled three small shockwaves back at Jezebel.
With the woman out cold, the force field surrounding Jake depleted. A rather surprised Jake then remembered what Wiccary told him back in the bunker, 'as a matter of fact I do. The best offence is a good defence!' he quoted back at an unconscious Jezebel.
