The Perfect Drink - Kagehina

Kageyama is a new barista working at a coffee shop. He's been working for 2 weeks now. It was a little cafe, with only a few customers and regulars going in and out.  It's boring most of the time, nothing exciting happening. Until one day, a certain customer caught his eye.

The bell dings as the front door opens, revealing a short, orange-haired boy. Walking up to the counter, Kageyama studied him.

"Hello, what can I get for you?" Kageyama asks.
"I'll get a cup of black coffee please." The boy replies.
"Just...plain black coffee??" Kageyama questions, confused since he didn't think this guy was the kind of person to just drink black coffee.
"Mhm." Was all the boy replied.
"Okay, what's your name?"
"Hinata"
"Alright, your drink will be ready in a few minutes. I will ring you up when it's done."
Kageyama says as he watches Hinata sit at a table for two.
'Well,' he thought, 'at least he picked the easiest thing for me to make.'

He started on the customer's drinks and after 2 minutes, called out to Hinata.
"I've got a black coffee for Hinata!" Kageyama called out. He sees the small boy walk up to the counter to claim his drink.
"Sugar packets and creamers are on that tray over there." Kageyama says as he points towards the said objects.
"Thanks, but I don't need them." Hinata responds as he walks back to his table.
Kageyama's eyes followed him as he sat down again.
Hinata picked up the cup and sipped on the drink as his face immediately scrunched up. He slowly put the cup down, letting out a sigh.

Kageyama observes the other boy's facial expressions, pondering to himself as to why someone would order something they didn't like? He was even surprised the smaller male turned down on sugar or creamers. 'He's different. Today's definitely not as normal as I thought it would be.' He thought.

After awhile, he stood up to leave the shop, discarding the cup that was still quite full into the trash can on his way out.
'What a waste...' Kageyama thought as he sighs, getting back to work after watching the orange-haired boy leave.

Days passed, Hinata came back almost everyday. He would order the same drink and sit at the same spot everytime. He would throw away the drink, still full, on his way out as if it were a routine. He and Kageyama had been communicating with each other a lot more than last time.

Days turned to weeks, Kageyama and Hinata have became close friends. Hinata dropping by everyday, around the same time in the afternoon. He always ordered one cup of black coffee, what was different now was that he spent his time with Kageyama, talking and chattering about their lives and experiences. Kageyama was quite glad he met Hinata, finally his days weren't as boring as before.

Kageyama decided to ask Hinata a question.
"Hey, Hinata?"
"Yes?"
"Why do you drink black coffee if you clearly dislike it?" Kageyama asks.
"Oh, that..." Hinata replies rather softly, "It might sound childish but I want to show people that I can be mature as well. Plus, it's so that I'd get use to the taste next time. You can think of it like some sort of practice for the future??" Hinata explains with a little laugh at the end, since his explanation probably sounded silly to the taller male.

"But you don't have to prove yourself to anyone." Kageyama calmly responds after a few seconds.
"I know, I know, I just want to do it." Hinata says as the corner of his lips tug up to form a small smile,
"It sounds weird, but I'm fine with it." Hinata continues.
"You sure?" The raven-haired boy asked. To which the boy seated across from him only hummed in response.

Hinata's regular visit went on for two and a half months. At this point, Kageyama just waits for Hinata to come by, since he's the only one who makes him motivated enough to continue working his shift. He couldn't help but feel his heart strings being tugged though. As suspected, he had grown a little crush on the sunshine boy.
