"I swear you're like a damn cat." (Y/n) laughed at Greenie as he toyed with her.
He often would knock small items off her dresser or nightstand and even go as far as knocking over her guitar, staff, and items in the bathroom. He'd do so until she got up and picked it up then would try to prevent her to do so.
"You know what, I'll pick it up later. I'm not falling for your nonsense anymore." She laughed trying to go back to work.
Greenie continued to push her buttons by pressing the ones on her laptop. Her hand waves away his smoke but it didn't seem to work.
"Ah yes, my resume was missing aslkdwehs. It's perfect now."
A knock erupted on her bedroom door, "(Y/n)?"
"Yeah, mom?"
Greenie made a mad dash under her bed to hide.
"Can I come in?"
"Of course, yeah."
The door opened and the brunette walked in with a neutral expression on her face, "Who were you talking to?"
"Oh, myself, I do that sometimes, you now, talk out loud." She lied.
"Uh, right...well, I thought I'd let you know Mia is here, she's out in the back yard."
"Oh sweet!" (Y/n) slammed her laptop closed and slid off her bed. "Why'd she come over?"
"She wanted to talk to you, bring your staff too."
"Is she mad at me?" The lack of emotion on her mother's face scared her.
"Oh, no! She just wants to talk to you."
Her mother left and as soon as (Y/n) had her shoes on she was outside. Their home laid on the edge of a forest which was all (Y/n) went when she was a child. Their back yard was large and spacious. On nights like these, her father would like the fire pit which is exactly what she did as her Mia sat on a wooden bench near it.
"What brings you here, Mia? I'm the one usually traveling there." She took a seat next to her.
"Have you tried using your staff yet?" The old woman admired her own.
She picked it up and gazed at it, "No, I actually want to put some paint on it. It looks a bit plain to me."
"I'm sure paint would look nice..."
There was a silence between them before Mia stood to her feet and positioned herself near the fire.
"Can I tell you a story?"
"I've heard all the stories about the Protectors, Mia. I'm good."
"No, no this is a new one." Mia reassured, "It's one that I kept from you."
"Kept from me? Alright, you've got my attention." She leaned on her elbow waiting for the story to begin.
Mia rose her hands and began to manipulate the smoke coming out of the fire to make people and characters to tell the story.
"Long ago, a woman named Kathryn was a great protector. She was well known and respected by both people and others like her. She held dark secret though, one that breaks the laws of our kind. She held a bond with three Shadows. With this bond, she sent them out to kill other Protectors that she felt threatened her high position. Once caught she was burned alive for her crimes."
(Y/n) waved her hand in the smoke over the fire. "I don't understand, why are you telling me this."
Mia gripped her staff with both hands. "It's because I feel as though you are falling down the same path."
