"that class was literally the most boring hour of my life. like... we didn't even do anything. what was the point?" jimin asked, walking out of the classroom with namjoon beside him.

"uh... i don't know," namjoon said.

jimin just looked up at him, smiling.

they walked side by side on the pavement, not saying much.

"do you have another class to go to?"

"y-yeah. it's in like an hour, though."

"what class is it?"

namjoon glanced down at his paper where he wrote down all the classes he had that day and when they start.

"sociology."

jimin stopped in his tracks, latching onto namjoon's arm and looking at him.

"no way! with professor chung?"

"yeah," namjoon said, smiling and looking down.

"we have another class together! this is gonna be so fun!" jimin said, doing a little skip in his step, "what were you planning on doing for the next hour?"

namjoon just shrugged his shoulders.

"i'll- ugh... probably just go sit on a bench and wait for class to start."

"a bench? that's no fun! why don't we go to the café. we can get drinks and talk," jimin said, wanting to get to know the mysterious boy more.

"y-yeah, okay," namjoon said, nodding his head, secretly dreading that he'd have to make conversation with someone for an hour.

-

namjoon felt bad.

it's not that he didn't want to talk to jimin, because he definitely did. he just didn't know how. he felt awkward and weird about himself and he hated having to make conversation.

"what do you want?" jimin asked, staring up at the menu.

"uh... i guess just a normal black coffee is fine."

"black coffee?" jimin questioned.

namjoon just nodded, nervously looking away from him.

"no wonder you're so tense," jimin said, laughing and walking up to the counter.

"hello! we'll have a plain black coffee and a hot chocolate with extra whip, please," jimin said.

he leaned over to namjoon and whispered.

"do you like cheese danish?"

namjoon just nodded his head and jimin quickly turned back to the clerk.

"sorry. can we get a cheese danish, too, please."

the clerk just nodded and added it to the tab.

jimin pulled out his wallet and began taking his card out.

"j-jimin," namjoon said, tapping on his arm, "i-i can pay. you don't have to-"

"it's fine," jimin said, laughing, "you let me sit by you and talk your ear off for an hour. the least i could do is pay."

namjoon just laughed a little, a blush spreading across his face, as he looked down at his shoes.

"here's your receipt, sir. your order will be ready in a few."

jimin just thanked the man and smiled, grabbing the receipt from him.

"let's go find a table," jimin said, grabbing onto namjoon's wrist and dragging him along.

after looking for a moment, jimin sat himself down at the small table that was right in the middle of the café, people buzzing all around them.

namjoon just stood there for a moment, contemplating.

"is this alright?" jimin asked.

"uh..,"

namjoon thought for a moment. he contemplated asking jimin if they could move to a table in the back or go outside and eat, but he didn't want to seem weirder than he already did, so he just sat down.

as soon as they were both seated, a worker brought their drinks and danish over, jimin smiling big and thanking her.

jimin reached over to the danish and ripped it in half, very unevenly. he took the smaller piece from the plate and pushed the rest over to namjoon.

jimin took a big bite and was immediately satisfied.

"mmm- it's so good," jimin said, happily, "you have to try it!"

namjoon looked down at the danish, feeling a little weird about eating in front of everyone in the café.

especially jimin.

he decided to try it anyway, not wanting to be rude.

and he was indeed pleasantly surprised.

the danish tasted amazing.

jimin could tell just by namjoon's change in facial expression that he liked it.

"good, right?"

"yeah," namjoon said, nodding his head, "thanks..."

"of course!" jimin said.

it was silent for a moment, jimin just glancing around at everything in the café, fascinated.

"you seem smart," jimin said, out of the blue, taking a big swig of his hot chocolate, "it's really cool. you kind of... keep on the down low, huh?"

namjoon was honestly shocked.

he assumed jimin thought he was a total moron after his terrible first impression. he thought he made a fool of himself. but now jimin was saying he thought he looked... smart? that he was... cool?

"y-yeah. i guess i do."

namjoon just sat there and took another bite of the danish.

and suddenly, he felt just a little more safe with jimin.

"i like you. you're different."

namjoon just smiled, meeting eyes with him.

and thus,

the famous namjoon and jimin tradition began.
